Surnames: Steele, McCarty Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/YdJBAIB/1848.3 Message Board Post: I forgot to mention in my posting of 2/5 that Stephen Parcutt and Susannah McCARTY STEELE had no Alvena in their family. In all the listings for the past 100 years. only 9 children are listed, 4 girls whose names start with Z, Zerelda , Zorado, Zelinda, and Zerena P., 4 boys whose names are: Alphonso P., Alvarado P., Alexis P. and Alvin P. and the youngest child, a girl named Angeline. It is possible that further research may show that all the children had the middle initial P. The original information that was published in the William and Mary Quarterly beginning in 1914 came from the family of Alvarado P. STEELE, who lived in Jefferson co KY, just across the Hardin co line and is buried there, along with his brother Alexis P. and their mother, Susan/Susannah McCARTY STEELE in the Riverview cemetery. Stephen P. STEELE is buried in Limestone co TX, where he died on a visit to his son, Alphonso P. STEELE, the last survivor of the Battle of San Jacinto, of the Texas Revolut! ion. Jan

    2. I have Steele and Rea. My gr-gr-grandfather was Hugh Steel, m. Catharine Dunn in Bourbon Co., KY--1796. Died in Madison, Jefferson, Indiana 1828. Another set of gr-gr-grandparents was Nathaniel Wilson and Susan(nah) Riddle, also buried in Madison, in a different cemetery--the Underwood Cemetery. There are many Reas, Wilsons, Baxters and Pattons buried in the Underwood Cemetery, and other cemeteries around Madison. Please reply, if any of these names are familiar to you. Surnames: Steele / DuBois / Johnston Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/YdJBAIB/1473.1481.1483.1491.1496.1506.1 Message Board Post: Hi Howard. I just found info that has this surname in my husband's family line. All I have is that Virginia Steele married Joseph DuBois. Virginia would have been born about 1855-1860. They had a daughter (I think their only child) Agnes DuBois who I believe was born in Dallas, TX mabout 1880. Agnes married Benton Johnston 1901-1902. They had one child, Gladys born September 1902. Agnes died 1905-1906 in Dallas. One of the reasons your post was interesting to me was that the Johnston family moved from Minnesota to Wisconsin. Benton moved to Dallas TX and the rest of his family moved to Washington. I believe that Benton knew the DuBois family prior to Texas. The other interesting thing is that after Agnes died, Gladys was sent to a private girls boarding school in Minneapolis/St. Paul Minnesota from the time her mother died when she was 3 years old until she graduated when she was 17 in 1919. I have thought that there was probably family living in the area. I had! thought it was Johnston family, but now that I have found that the Steele side of the family also came from Minnesota, it is possible that it was Steele family that lived close to the boarding school. Agnes would come back home to Dallas TX to visit, and stay with her grandparents Joseph DuBois and Virginia (Steele) DuBois. I would love to make a connection and identify info on any possible siblings or parents to Virginia. I know that this Steele family had some degree of wealth for the times. Hoping we have something that matches. Connie connie_naylor@yahoo.com
