    3. Hi all You have probably heard that Rootsweb is removing the Mailing List feature on 2nd March 2020. You will no longer be able to subscribe or send messages to the STEEL-UK list after that date. The archives will be kept on Rootsweb for you to view. A new group has been set up on groups.io, a similar but better mailing list. The group is called STEEL-UK and you can subscribe at https://groups.io/g/STEEL-UK Hope to see you there. 3. Hi David, Thank you for asking! I have no intention of moving the STEEL-UK list. As of March 2 it goes away. It takes too much time for RootsWeb/Ancestry to manage the spam and email bounces and my own time managing spam sent to the list and etc.! If you would like to set one up on another website, you have permission to post a one time only message to the list with contact information. I am not unsubbing anyone unless they ask. Folks are connecting through DNA, message borads, wiki trees, find a grave and the list goes on. Post your connection to STEEL-UK so that it is in the list archive which will remain. 1. [Steel-UK] STEEL in Sunderland (was in Co Durham) and Whitby (Yorks)
    2. D C Banks
    3. Hi I am researching the STEEL family. I have found them in Sunderland in the 1841 but there seems to be more children in the 1841 than there are on the IGI, baptised/born in Sunderland. I have searched wider and have found a similar family in Whitby, it looks like they moved to Sunderland about the time of the birth of a second Isaiah, the first one died, in 1822. The marriage of William and Martha LEADLEY was in 1809, they don't seem to have children until 1822 until I 'found' 6 more, all with birthdates between 1811 and 1822, in Whitby. These are the 'facts' so far: William(1786) marries Martha LEADLEY, Whitby, 20/8/1809 They have: William 1811, Eleanor 1813, Isaiah 1815, Ann 1816, Thomas 1818, Isaac 1820, 2nd Isaiah 12/10/1822, all in Whitby. The first Isaiah dies in 1821 They then (supposedly) move to Sunderland where they have: Isaiah 9/10/1822, Susan 1824, John 1827, Martha 1833. There could be two families, both having an Isaiah within 3 days of each other but I think they are the same family and Isaiah was born in Whitby on the 9/10/1822 and was baptised in Sunderland on the 12/10/1822. So, what leads me to deduce all this. It was rare in those days for a family not to start baby making immediately they were married, Martha was well able to have children as proved both in Whitby or Sunderland. In the 1841 there are certainly two children who are not born 'in county' although they are indicated as such on the census. Eleanor (born in Whitby) is married by 1841 and has Martha and John (both born in Sunderland) living with her in Sunderland, mum and dad have disappeared, so possibly they have died and the children are living with their older sister. Any help in confirming my 'deductions' would be welcomed. I have William (1786) as son of Richard and Elizabeth WALKER, in Whitby. David Banks

    3. Hi. This is William Innes in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. I'm looking for my cousin William "Billy" Steel born in Scotland about 1932. His mother was Mary Margaret Shaw Innes born 2 Oct.1894 at Glendullan House located in Dufftown, Banff, Scotland. Her parents were William Innes and "Maggie" Kellas. Mary died on the 1 May 1970. On the 29 Oct.1921 she married John Steel at the County Building in Elgin. What I do know about "Billy" is that he married a lady by the name of Maria and that they had two children: David born about 1962 and Angela born about 1964. Not sure where Billy lived but I have reason to believe that he may have lived in either Elgin, Inverness or Aberdeen. If you feel that there may be a link with this family would love to hear from you. Cordially William Innes
