I found a Samuel Cushman, who was born in Portsmouth, N.H. on June 8, 1783. He died in Portsmouth on May 20, 1851. Does anyone know if this is the Samuel Cushman who married Betsey Stearns? Betsey was born December 13, 1793, daughter of Josiah and Sarah (Whittier) Stearns. Betsey was probably born in the northeast, possibly in Massachusetts. The time frame certainly fits.
