The majority of the surname lists on the RootsWeb server are now archived. And, even better, the archives are searchable on the World Wide Web. The eight lists that I manage are currently available (I just checked) on the site. To search the archives for the Beers, Godfrey, Kern, Monroe, Richmond, Spicer, Stearns or Tingley lists go to the following web site: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl You will need to enter the name of the list that you want to search, and then follow the instructions from that point. Luckily the search engine isn't very fussy and you have a lot of leeway on how you enter the name of the list, for example if you want to search the Smith list you could enter, smith, Smith, SMITH, smiTh-L, and SMith-D and still succeed in getting into the archives. The majority of the lists on the RootsWeb server are now archived and searchable, however there are some who's owners opted out of the archives. If you find a RootsWeb list that you want to search, but which isn't on the archives you'll have to contact the manager of that list for any comments or questions. Good hunting and happy holidays.
