I am interested in filling in the family tree for descendants of George W. Starnes and Sarah Ann Lipe. George W. Starnes was born 10 Dec 1810 (son of John and Sarah Jane Adams.) Their children were: Sousan; Robert G.; John Wesley; Willaim Frank; Pleasant M.; Thomas J.; Sarah E.; George W. Jr.; Zachariah; and Winfield Scott Starnes. Have info on William Frank Starnes line, but not his siblings' families. Will gladly share what I have, which includes some info about George's grandparents and great grandparents. If you bounce four times, you get bounced. It's part of the list software that keeps the load to a minimum. When you get one of these messages, go ahead and send a new "subscribe" message to STEARNS-L-REQUEST@rootsweb.com and get yourself back on. It won't duplicate your subscirption in the unlikely event you weren't actually unsubscribed (somehow). Also, if you have a sig file at the bottom of your messages, add the word "quit" on the next line after your "subscribe" command. It'll keep SmartList from belching out your request and leaving you in the dark (still). Hello fellow Stearns researchers. I am searching for some of my ancestors. The following are the three generations of Stearns I have information on: Lucinda E. Stearns born December 1, 1840 in Fulton County, New York William A. Stearns (brother of Lucinda) born November 28, 1848 in Perth, Fulton County, New York. William C. Stearns (father of William A. and Lucinda E.) married Rosina Chase. Ezra Stearns (father of William C.) father of nine children. His ancestry is said to be from natives of the United States. I am searching for ancestors further back. If anyone has any information, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!! Heidi H.
I got a spurious message from the system telling me I'd unsubscribed - a big surprise to me. It probably happened because my messages were bouncing last weekend - server was out of business. I'm sending this to the list to check & see if I get a copy back. I recently copied a few pages from a book on North Carolina Baptists that had to do with the Rev. Shubael Stearns and his brothers and brother-in-law. If anyone's interested, I'll post the data (that is if I'm still subscribed!) Jim

Hello Cousins, Well as you can see, the list is up and running fairly smoothly on RootsWeb. On some of the lists I manage I have even noticed an increase in the message volume. I think that's great, and hope the trend continues. The workload for me as list manager on RootsWeb seems to be less than it was for the equivalent message volume on Maiser. So, even though I have scaled way back on my personal genealogy work, I'll make it easy and just stay on as the list manager for this list for the foreseeable future. I do appreciate the offers I received from several of you from my earlier message. It really does seem like it would be a simple matter to switch over "managers" but volume of errors isn't near what it was with Maiser. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. And I am monitoring traffic so if someone has a question I can help with, I'll certainly do my best to answer. Take care, good hunting. Chet -- Chet Swanson Everett, WA mailto:swanson@premier1.net
Cousins, For those of us who are descended from Isaac Stearns and Mary Barker and his kinsmen Charles and Shubael, all of Nayland, Suffolk, Eng.: On the WARREN-L mailing list yesterday was posted a message about our favorite little town of Nayland. The John WARREN the Fifth ancestor of the lady who posted the message was from there and probably came over with Isaac and Mary on the "Arabella" in 1628, as both couples settled and lived out their lives in Watertown, MA. The most exciting thing is that she gives dates for another 100 years of generations in Nayland! (see below for an example) That implies that the records still exist and are accessible! Does anyone know where to start to look for them? I have emailed the lady to ask for more information on her sources. More later on a Stearns database I am putting together and hope to 'publish' online soon. Care to contribute your GEDCOM? Take Care, Cuz Mark Stearns,II <mstearns@airnet.net> P. O. I am sorry to post this to the entire list, but I have temporarily misplaced my Stearns members list addresses. There are about a half dozen of you who shared your Stearns information (via gedcom) in the past year or two. Tonight I received a request from another Stearns cousin for a copy of my gedcom , which will be merged with their gedcom and eventually placed on the WWW. I won't share my gedcom unless I have the permission of those of you who so nicely shared your gedcoms with me. So, if you sent me your gedcom please let me know your feelings about the information being put on the WWW. Take care and have a great week everyone! Jeanne Hayes email: j-hayes@mindspring.com

I had Emma Ramsford, didn't know there was a debate Kate
Hey, I tho't that date was familiar. I have a Sarah Jane (Sallie) STARNES who was BORN in 1799 (Jan 30). She died Feb 8, 1874. She was married to my ggg-grandfather, Absalom David Looney (b. Mar 5, 1790/d. Dec 12, 1862). Her father was John Starnes (1776-1859) and her mother was Sarah Jane Adams (b. Craig Co., Virginia). There is a tradition that Jane Adams was the sister of John Quincy Adams, but I can't find any mention of her in the Adams family histories in the encyclopedias. Anyone have either Sarah Jane Adams or John Starnes info? BTW, a brief biography of Sallie and App David can be found at http://Members.AOL.Com/JSully7/app_dave.html (a section of the Looney Genealogy HomePage at http://Members.AOL.Com/JSully/ maintained by Jim Sullivan (Mailto:JSully7@AOL.Com). I was just wondering if the debate was ever settled as to the name of Isaac Stearns mother - this is the Isaac who married Mary Barker. Isaac's father was William. Jeanne email: j-hayes@mindspring.com
