    3. I dont know if John is still on the list....and not sure if he ever made a connection here....so this is still open to discussion [for me anyway] as I am not sure of the connection...thanks, Nena Fr:"DJames Adams" montanan2@worldnet.att.net>22 Oct 2002-My name is John STATLER. I saw your email to the rootsweb STATLER email list and it greatly sparked my interest because we had the STATLER/STATELER difference within our family. I am wondering if we are related in some way. As late as 1940 my Grandfather, Dennis James STATLER pronounced our name as "STATE-ler". On the Ohio, 1840 US Census the name was enummerated as STATELER. This is what I know: My Father, John Rally STATLER, b. 1901 Il Grandfather, Dennis James STATLER, b. 1872 Mi GGrandfather, John Riley STATLER, b. 1846 Oh GGGrandfather, James STATELER, b. 1805 Oh 1833 James md Mary b 1815 Clark Oh. issue: Jacob, Mary, Charlotte, Dennis, John Riley, Cynthia and (Linda?). James and family moved to Mi c1847. John 1805 STATELER, twin to James 1805 STATELER m. Mary SOFER, their issue: Clarrisa, James, Elizabeth, Erastus, Solomon, Burns and Stephen. Andrew J STATELER, older brother to James 1805 STATELER appeared 1840 US Census De Co Oh with wife and issue of 7. I have info which makes me believe the father of James 1805 STATELER was Jacob b c1774 STATELER who, 1828 lived with his family Tully Township, either Marrow, Marion or Crawford Co Oh. >John Statler ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` THE JACOB B c1774 he refers too would be one of the sons of John Stateler sr, son of Jacob Stateler and wife UNK. He md Jan 1800, to Elisabeth, probably Myers. An undocumented family history published in 1927 gives his dates as 8 May 1733-22 February 1826 (41), but this is incorrect on both ends. By his own statement, John was a minor at the time of his father's death in 1778 and continued a minor for many years thereafter, attaining his majority sometime prior to 8 September 1795 (42). He cannot have been significantly over 21 at that time. Estate records indicate he was dead almost a year earlier than the date shown by Wilson (43). [is this pretaining to above John, or John the son of Stephen?] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SO WHERE DOES THIS ANDREW J BELONG....HE WAS B 1839......CANT BE ONE JOHN REFERS TOO. Andrew J STATLER, md twice. Everyone named STATLER in Monongalia Co comes down the same line. Stephen had other children, all of whom moved away from here, so the name was carried on only in the family of his grandson John STATLER son of Jacob. William K BUNNER told me he had done some legal work for Andrew STATLER's 2nd wife, in the 1980s, and that it seemed quite bizarre to him that he was acting as attorney at that time for a Civil War widow and the daughter-in-law of a man born c1817. I'm descended from Prudence Henderson's sister Charlotte, who married Alpheus Garrison. I just found an obit for Jackson Statler, who moved from his native Monongalia Co to Tyler Co WV I believe after the Civil War: STATLER, ANDREW JACKSON - Veteran of the Civil War, died at his home at Meadeville, Tyler Co., WV, on 23 June 1926, aged 87 years. He was born 24 Feb. 1839. He and Prudence Henderson married 10 November 1858 and ten children were born to this union. They are as follows: Asa Franklin of Syracuse, IN; John S. of Fairview, WV; Alpheus E. of Meadeville; Mrs.Nancy E. Adams of Newell, WV; Mrs. Cora Alice Turner of Sistersville,WV;Chrystena Lawton of Meadowbrook, WV; surviving him. George A., David M.,and Mrs. Mary E. McCoy preceded him in death, also his wife, Prudence, having died 25 June 1906. He and S. Eva Jordon married 3 Dec. 1909 and three children were born to this union, Ethel Mildred, Ralph Jordon and Helen Marie, living at home with her mother, who survives her husband. He was a member of Co. C, 3rd Regiment of the WV Cavalry. He was a member of the M. E. Church. Interment was in the Meadeville Cemetery (Tri-County Obituaries vol. 1, p. 80). Brian D. Core> P.O. 3. Hi all, This family has men named John and Jacob in all the early generations. My take on the earliest generations and the location of the fort is on my web site. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sandrajoneshall/Group10.htm snip... > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~` > THE JACOB B c1774 he refers too would be one of the > sons of John Stateler > sr, son of Jacob Stateler and wife UNK. Jacob being > son of Stephen > Stadler/Stateler. John Sr is not the son of Jacob. Jacob's son John was born about 1770 and was a minor at the time of his fathers death, and always lived in Mono. County. snip > STATLER, ANDREW JACKSON - Veteran of the Civil War, > died at his home at > Meadeville, Tyler Co., WV, on 23 June 1926, aged 87 > years. This is not the Andrew Stateler is the note you recevieved. That Andrew was born 1800-1810 not 1841.
