I am a direct decendent of Stephen Stradler. When Stephens sons, George and Stephen, came to Indiana and Kentucky Stephen, (my ggg Uncle) stayed in Kentucky and used the Statler spelling and George, (my ggg Grandfather) moved to Indiana and used the Stateler spelling. George married Elizabeth Smeathers, (my ggg Grandmother) and they used the Stateler spelling and we still use it. There is an old story in our family about my gg Grandfather Jacob Stateler and his brother got into an argument over Democrats and Republicans and my gg Uncle moved to Ohio and changed his spelling to Statler.
