It seems like the 3 brothers must go through each family although mine goes like this: 3 brothers left PA together to find new land and they ended up in Kentucky. They got into an argument on the way and took different spellings of their name. Stephen who stayed in Kentucky used Statler and George who came to Indiana used Stateler. I don't know for sure who the other brother was but I think it was Michael who also used Stateler. Stephen said in an interview for the newspaper that his father spelled his name Stradler. A few generations pass and again an argument between brothers ensue over politics and another brother leaves, never to return, he moves to Ohio and spells his name Statler. In my youth my Great Grandfather always said to remember that we were somebody special, we were Pa Dutch. I never knew why he thought that was special but I always believed him. Marva Stateler
