    3. Hi David and List!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! David, is it OK if I put this message on the list serve group.........................Jennifer and I need Stetler/Statler/Stotlers who DID NOT GO TO MIAMISBURG OR PIQUA. David, I thought this might generate a lot of traffic...............and Jennifer, I hope I have not offended you. God bless all of you this upcoming Easter Sunday. My GREATXXXXX Grandpa Heinrich/Henry was baptized in Rerhrersburg, Bethel Twp. Berks Co on Easter 1769. The Moyers/Mayers were the sponsors. Please, anyone who knows any of our family in PA, write Jennifer. It seems to me, like a rare name in OHIO but quite common in PA? Am I right? Thanks everyone and David I'm not real familiar with LISTSERV rule to yell at me if this is "Verboten." ================================================================ Kirby Stettler wrote Jennifer: DEAR JENNIFER, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ASK ALL YOUR OLDER FAMILY MEMBERS ABOUT ALL YOUR GRANDPAS AND GRANDMAS AND PICNICS AND REUNIONS AND EVENTS IN THEIR LIVES=============TONIGHT OR TOMORROW. Do you want a recent horror story? 15 years ago I had my dear Aunt have her daughter search her house from basement to attic because my AUNT KNEW there was an old trunk with pics of relatives, some cardboard, some tin type and some glass in fancy boxes. Well, of course the real tragedy is that now she has altzheimiers. However, when it was too late......................her daughter visited HER daughter, a stewardess in Manhatten, and the old pics were all over the room. Unidentified, of course. The grandaughter thought the old tintypes and fancy velvet boxes and golden frames were "neat things" to decorate her apartments. ARRRRGHHHH How I regret not having the wisdom to ask questions earlier in life. JUST THINK if at age 16 I had quizzed by Grandpa who was born 15 years after the civil war!!!! But at that time, all I cared about was mustangs and girls. ahhhhhhhhhhhh Don't repeat my mistake. I suggest the column the dear Schuyler Brossman wrote "Our Keystone Families" from Rehrerburg, Pa for forty years. I recall it spoke of "Grandpa Gruff/Gruss" and Stetlers who stayed in PA. I believe it's on the net somewhere. I believe Fred Houts lives in PA...........HE is descended from the Abraham Stettler family who lived near Allentown.........do a search for his familytreemaker web site........................also search for my late friend Frank Youmans' familytreemaker website. give me a yell if you have trouble Also, have you ever looked at the phonebook for Reading, PA? Wow! Also, how about joining the PA chapter of "Palantines to America?" If you have any trouble finding any of these sites on the net just yell. BUT ABOVE ALL FACE YOUR FEARS AND ASK YOUR OLD KIN QUESTIONS ELDERLY PEOPLE OFTEN FEEL THAT NO ONE CARES ABOUT THEIR LIVES ANYMORE AND THEY WILL ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOU IF YOUR WILLING TO ASK ABOUT THEIR LIVES, GRANDPAS, THEIR FIRST MEMORIES, TRICKS THEIR SIBLINGS PLAYED ON THEM, HOW THEY CELEBRATED CHRISTMAS, ETC! I DON'T MEAN TO PREACH BUT YOUR TIME IS RUNNING OUT. Every time I take my 10 hour trip to my "Altalaha" home church I meet either Stetlers or someone who know Stettler in PA. Best of luck in your searching, it's out there. -Kirby Stetler P.S.There should be a lot of interesting info in Reading, which was Berks Co. County Seat after Berks was created out of Lancanster co. in 1752. Thus..........................don't overlook Harrisburg, for pre-split county. There are Stettlers all over Pa...................I've often wished I was retired and knew what happened to my cousins still in the keystone State. I'm not sure whether you found me on my website or in the Stetler-L run by David Stetler and on David's site you will even find how to get to a DNA study being run to figure out who belongs to which family STATLER-L@rootsweb.com The wonderful lady who is doing the DNA site is Sandra Hall http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sandrajoneshall This site has helped me more than I can tell you. David is just great and so is the genealogy Lady and surely many many PA Stettler are reading it and can help you. Stettler/Stetler is a rare name in Ohio. See you, possible cousin! <big smile> my page is http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/k/i/r/D-S-Kirby You can also go to a search engine collection like dogpile.com and just type in the name David Stettler for example......................you'll be amazed. Oh, it looks like ancestry.com and familyfinder.com merged but their searches will tell you what disk to purchase to find out more of your ancestor. And, a lot of the info is FREE I'm rambling on too long but you got me excited...............you can be amazed by searching for a "home page" in either family tree.com or ancestry.com....................AND be sure to ask to look at family pictures while you still have someone around to identify the people................so many old tintypes and other pics never had anyone write "who they were" on the back of the picture. ================================================================ Jennifer's original message: Help me encourage her to "bug" her Grandpa before it's too late, please thanks - Kirby Stetler ================================================================ -- Original Message ----- From: "Lams" <skipping_the_limina@yahoo.com> To: <kstet@bright.net> Sent: Monday, March 22, 2004 8:21 AM Subject: Stetler family in PA > Mr. Stetler- > > I keep looking for information on the PA Stetlers, > but the only information I can ever find on the family > name after the early 1800s concerns the Ohio families. > > > My interest in my family's history was recently > rekindled, and seeing some of the names from two > centuries ago in the stories in your site give me > chills because a lot of the males in my family share > those names. > > Unfortunately, what I have at the moment is > absolutely pitiful - I lost all of the dates and names > I got from grandfather before and I'm still working up > the nerve to bug him again about it. :) My > grandfather and his brothers and sister - Howard, > Fred, George, and Jenny Stetler, respectively, are > from somewhere near Beaver Twp in PA.
