His son Adam, born the same year, was the first white child born in the Monongahela Valley. Andrew Ice started the first authorized ferry in western Virginia in 1785. >From my NOTES: Posted By: Clyde Evans cevans5420@aol.com Subject: Re: Ice Family Genealogy Forum March 6 1999 Joyce- My records show: Andrew Ice, b. 10-16-1757, d. 3-15-1845, in 1783 m. Mary Bayles b. 11-6-1763. Andrew received official authorization by Act of 1785 to establish a ferry on the Cheat River (under Lake Cheat now near Morgantown). George Washington crossed 1n 1784 on the ferry coming from Beeson Town to Fort Peirpoint. He was checking the possibilities for a canal from the Potomac to the Monongahela and spoke to Andrew about it. Andrew advised against it. Fr Michael Schell-I also have the wedding picture of Harvey Ice with his second wife Sarah Harris Stateler-Ice, who was sister of Anna Katherine Ice and Married Harvey after Sarah died. I have scanned the photo and would be happy to email it to interested parties . Sincerely, Michael Schell mjs54@cus.cam.ac.uk By linking into the Ice family, you have found a genealogy jackpot, since all of the ICE family is descended from one person. This info can be found on the internet; Billy Lynn Cunningham (billcham@ovis.net) has compiled a VERY complete history of the Ice family going back to Fredericke IAAC, who came over on the boat. To get your bearings, George Ice (father of Harvey) is the grandson of Indian Billy Ice, who was the grandson of Fredericke Iaac/Ice . _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
