Library of Virginia has several deeds regarding a John Statler of Monongalia County on Dunker's (Dunkerd's) Creek. I'm interested because my John Stutler was very near this area. In 1810 my John Stutler was in Harrison County, but his name in the census was listed as "John Statler". From the Library of Virginia all in Monongalia County: 12 September 1792 Grantees: Samuel Hanway, Standish Forde Description: 500 acres adjoining Joseph Hunt between Dols Run and Statler's Run. Other names listed: Jacob Statler 28 June 1796 Grantee: Michael Statler Description: 200 acres on a branch of Dunker Creek adjoining lands of John Statler. Other names listed: John Statler 31 December 1798 Grantee: John Statler Description: 400 acres on Dunkerd Creek including his settlement made thereon in the year 1770. 13 February 1805 Grantee: George Hite Description: 500 acres adjoining and above the lands of John Statler heir at law to Jacob Staler on Dunkerd Creek. Other names listed: John Statler, Jacob Statler 26 June 1809 Grantee: Evan Jenkins Description: 800 acres adjoining John Statler, William Lancaster, & c. and on Dunker Creek. Other names listed: John Statler, William Lancaster. Anyone familiar with the above information? Anita Schultz-Peters Member of Group 16 Statler/Stutler DNA search.

I would be interested in providing DNA for the study/research. How do I go about it? my father's family came from southeast Missouri, then moved to Flint Michigan in the 1930's Brad Statler St. Louis, MO .
Hi Brad, Nice to here from you. You are probably part of what I call Group 14. Check out my website on the DNA project and Group 14. If you wish to take the test here is a link to the Family Tree website: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=Y53712&special=true I have three matches for your Group so I will not be funding any more test for them. This family is part of Group 8. John and Pricilla lived to be in the 1850 census in Loudoun County, VA. John's age given as 91 birthplace Pennsylvania, "Perciller" age 80 birthplace Virginia. I have one DNA result from this Group which is very close to some of the STETTLER results. Another member of this family just signed up, so hopefully in a few months we will get his results. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sandrajoneshall/

Hi All! The Statler Family website is sort of in a state of flux right now as the current provider has changed some things that has messed everything up. If you go to the site now, it shows old data from what was there back in the year 2000 !?! To go directly to the latest Family Database, you can just go here: http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?&db=statler To see the latest Statler Family Website pages, for now you can go here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~statler/statler/index.html Just wanted to let everyone know so they can get the latest stuff until we get the site squared away... From: Sandra Hall <shall@pacbell.net> Subject: Re: [STATLER] DNA Project Thanks for the interest. I did a few reports to this list but it has been a long time, I do posts to the Genforum and Rootsweb surname boards. ============================ Thanks Sandra for the update on the project, do appreciate it and hoping for more participants for you........Nena
Thanks for the interest. I did a few reports to this list but it has been a long time, I do posts to the Genforum and Rootsweb surname boards. My website; http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sandrajoneshall/ In brief: The Goal of the project was to link the Groups I establishes in 1986. Your Statler/Stateler family which I call Group 10 is not related to the other Groups in the male line. I have two Group 10 members who match. (There is also a non-project member who matches. He is an adoptee and I believe his birth father was a Stateler but he was reluctant to follow up) I have at least one participant from each of the 14 Groups with living male descendants, except Groups 3 (Stiteler) and Group 13 (Stadler). I have some participants who came to America after the Revolution but I certainly would like more. The STATLER Groups that match are Groups 4 and 8 and they were originally Stettlers, probably from Switzerland. Other STATLER Groups are 6 and 14. I have at least two matching results for each. So I have 4 Groups that appear to be related. 5 confirmed Groups that don't match other Groups 3 unconfirmed Groups 2 Groups with no participants. I have solved some mysteries especially for the Stotler family of Morgan County WV (Group 9) connecting some men in Ohio who I believed were related back in 1986 when I wrote the Statler/Stetler/Stotler newsletters. My personal goal of finding the origins of Group 6 is still frustrated. I was just curious how the project is coming along. I never see any updates on matches or who has joined or results. How many participants are in it now and can someone tell us if there is a website where we can view the results like there is for the other surname DNA projects. Those of you on the list who descend from George Stateler/Statler and Elizabeth Smeathers might be interested to know our latest results for two Asa Smeathers participants. A little/big twist to this family now, Asa was believed to be the biological son of James Smeathers, younger brother to William Smeathers, and James' wife Elizabeth Beall, however DNA now has proven that Asa himself is a Beall not a Smeathers. You might want to adjust your genealogy data to so reflect this new development. James and Elizabeth md in 1805, and Asa was a year old when they married. We have yet to determine now if Elizabeth was a Beall by birth as long has been the story by the Mordecai Beall crowd that claimed her, or if she married a Beall who was father to Asa. We are working on finding Asa's father with the Beall DNA folks. Our best guess at this stage is she md a Beall, he died and her and James married and he raised Asa as a Smeathers. We have found no adoption or guardianship but back in those days often a step father just raised a young child as his own when he married the mother and the father was dec'd without adopting or claiming guardianship. James had one son who md twice but there are no living males from his line today to test. DNA is certainly exciting. Hope to hear some reports on the Statler DNA project and especially interested in any matches of George Statler's line. BTW-we do now know the family our William and James Smeathers comes from. It is representated by my brother and his 25/25 matches in group 1 when you click on Participants upper left. A William SMITHER who died 1760 Berks co PA leaving a will naming 7 sons. Thanks and take a look at our website anytime. Nena Smothers DNA Project Admin http://www.members.dca.net/smothers/dna
