Hi Everyone! Just got a tip in the latest Rootsweb email publication "Rootsweb Review" that the state of Arizona recently released its birth (1887-1928) and death (1878-1953) certificates online as PDF files. You can check it out here: http://genealogy.az.gov/ Doing some quick searches myself, there were quite a few Statler's, a Stotler, and a Stateler, but no Stetler or Stettler's were found. Happy Hunting! David Statler
David, The one Stateler, Lloyd J.R., is my dad. He's still alive and now lives in Santa Rosa CA. I am his only son, the latest in a long line back to Stephen 'Stradler' Stateler from Germany 1760's. letter from the The Society of Indiana Pioneers dated 22 July 1979 which concerns and inquiry of mine about records of Daniel Grass. Judy Byars jlpb@earthlink.net The Indiana Historical Society has file of manuscript notes gathered by William H. English in the late 1880's. He intended a volume on members of the two Indiana State Conventions and members of the State Legislature, but work was never completed. Included in this collection are 11 items relating to Grass. Many scrappy or repetitious. Evidently data on Grass was difficult to locate then! None comes from a descendant. Only two give any family data: Dec 13, 1885 letter to English from Rockport. Writer not identified, but on stationery of Law Office of Taylor and Hemenway, Boonville. 3p. Letter has changes, apparently made by English. p.1, says Daniel Grass died in 1836. Father of 5 boys and 2 girls, all of whom lived to maturity. All now dead (1885). Has 8 grandchildren and one nephew, all adults, all married and all except one living in Spencer County. I think I know where most of the confusion comes from. I refer to John Sr as the John who married Eve (Byerly) Thorn. That was how he was known in the tax lists of Licking County, Ohio. The John who was the son of Jacob died 1778 was a generation younger. I have never seen him refered to as John Sr. His son John was a minor when he died. I refer to him as John of Monongalia County because he and his sons stayed there and did not come to Ohio. The note from John Statler: "I have info which makes me believe the father of James 1805 STATELER was Jacob b c1774 STATELER who, 1828 lived with his family Tully Township, either Marrow, Marion or Crawford Co Oh. >John Statler" This Jacob is probably the son of John and Eve Beyerly Thorn. He can't be the son of Monongalia County because he is about the same age.
