That shouldn't be an issue, because a CC shouldn't be soliciting, or accepting, funds personally. I always thought that the whole solicit funds thing was so that coordinators could receive a stipend from a local genealogical group to maintain the website. I know I have talked to some Texas CCs in the past who maintain their sites with close connection to their county's genealogical group. One such site has a coutner that the group requires so that they can see how many vists per month. I think that this kind of solicitation is okay. But asking any user for funds seems a bit unethical to me. We have always claimed that we are offering genealogy for free on the internet to help spread genealogical information and I think we should stick by that. I have a phrase on my two sites that says "Made by volunteers, for volunteers. Keep genealogy free." Maybe we just need to clarify what kind of solicitation is okay. On another note... who was the originator of the e-mail? Was he a cc? If so, maybe this discussion should be taken off this list and be something private between him and the SC? How did he get onto this list anyway? Is he an SC? > -----Original Message----- > From: Angie Rayfield [mailto:angie@inmyattic.com] > Sent: Monday, August 18, 2003 5:59 AM > To: STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: RE: [STATE-COORD] Mr National Coordinator if you would please > answer a few? > > > That shouldn't be an issue, because a CC shouldn't be soliciting, or > accepting, funds personally. > > Angie Rayfield > NCGenWeb > > >-----Original Message----- > > > >I do consider this an important topic for the SC list, and imagine > >that some SC/ASC's have no clue what this discussion is about. > >What will we do the first time some researcher writes to complain > >about how a CC "ripped them off financially???" > > > > --- > Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. > Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). > Version: 6.0.507 / Virus Database: 304 - Release Date: 8/4/2003 > > > --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Kimm, Your reply is thought provoking about the benefits of obtaining money and how to do it. I still worry that this can get out of hand if CCs begin to solicit for their own website. George (SC for MA and CT) p.s. this list is open only to SCs and ASCs ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kimm Antell" <kantell@austin.rr.com> To: <STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 18, 2003 10:10 AM Subject: RE: [STATE-COORD] Mr National Coordinator if you would please answer a few? > I always thought that the whole solicit funds thing was so that coordinators > could receive a stipend from a local genealogical group to maintain the > website.
