I have problems that are new to me. One of the WV CCs apparently turned one of her counties over to another person, I first became aware of this when I received an email with a subject and text starting with: Attention: ...to whom it may concern... I almost missed this message as my SpamKiller filters did not like this subject or opening sentence. I have now written three messages to this person using the email address that he has set up for use with the county and have not received a reply. I tried writing the former CC and she has not answered either. I subscribed his mailing address to WVGEN-L according to Project rules and he promptly unsubscribed. The page does have the USGenWeb Project logo but not the WVGenWeb Project logo that the CCs voted to change to one year ago. We have always had new volunteers read the rules and guidelines that were established for the WVGenWeb Project and ask that they agree to abide by them. If this new person read the rules and guidelines, he apparently does not plan to obey them. One totally frustrated SC. Les, I would order new web space for that county and start over. Sorry about the loss and health of your loved ones. Hello List A quick note about the problems with the new CC. Recently the AB had to deal with a problem between a CC and a SC that was caused by totally by the CC's lack of understanding of the role and power of the SC. In fact, several of that state's CCs didn't understand the role.... The first thing that needs to be done at State level (for all states) is a description of the position of SC with a definite listing of power, rights, and duties. The USGenWeb Project has always supported the idea of independent county webpages created to provide genealogy services to the community.... So we get independent thinkers who don't understand that there are positions, SC and AB, that oversees the quality of the websites. The second thing is find a mediator to explain the rights, concerns, etc. of the SC to the CC. The mediator should be willing to work both ways and be an advocate for both... I can understand CC's who only want to do their county pages and let the world go by... I sympathize with them... and there needs to be a place for them. The State guidelines for CC's were good but still didn't give a clue to the organization of the state... Darilee, I agree with what you have to say here. Most of the CCs in this project just want to take care of their sites and stay out of the politics, etc. Most of these folks do a terrific job and USGW couldn't exist without them. However, Les has a problem where a CC doesn't answer emails, won't communicate with him, etc. I think this has to be handled differently. JMHO!
