AGREED!!! Often nobody even realizes it's been done and they're not kept current with additional information/transcriptions as a result. I brought this to the attention of someone long ago--asking the purpose of the archives--but got no answer. My suggestion had been that the archives link out to the information they don't hold just like everyone else links to the archives. I don't understand the problem with that!! But a duplication of information leads to inaccuracies when that information is updated or revised. --HJD ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Stowell" <tstowell@chattanooga.net> To: <STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 19, 2003 12:59 PM Subject: Re: [STATE-COORD-L] Archives Use > > The problem is that some cc's are copying files directly from the > > USGenWeb Archives without permission of the submitters, who are getting > > upset. > > > > One cc that I know of has copied actual Census images that are > > copyrighted not only by SK publications, but reformatted by me > >specifically for the Archives so that researchers can view them for > >free.
