It is so upsetting when developers (or anyone, for that matter) desecrates an old cemetery. Please read the note below for news of an historic Eastern Shore Virginia cemetery that is threatened by the developer of a gated residential golf and retirement community. Be sure to click on the link and look at the pictures showing the appalling condition of the cemetery. For a view of what it looked like one year ago, see http://www.esva.net/ghotes/virtualcems/kcreek/images/kc00011.jpg . What a tragedy. These people should be ashamed of themselves. They have a web site at http://www.bay-creek.com/ . . . maybe we as genealogists ought to send our comments to them. Apparently the developer has plans to destroy the cemetery, either directly or through malign neglect. >Folks, > >On Saturday I took a few photos of the current state of Kings Creek >Plantation Cemetery, Cape Charles, Virginia -- the one that is threatened >by the developers of Bay Creek. > >The photos are in the Virtual Cemetery, Kings Creek Plantation, or here >is the direct link: > http://www.esva.net/ghotes/virtualcems/kcreek/extra1.htm >If you compare those shots with those taken a year ago, you will easily >discern the difference. If anyone is near that location, please take a digital camera and preserve whatever is available there to be preserved. There is an old cemetery in Cobb County on Canton Road at Shallowford Road that is not well taken care of and I fear that developers will do the same. The owner will not let anyone on that property to take care of it or to even photograph the graves as she fears that it would devalue the property for future sale. I am trying to get ALL of Cobb County's cemeteries online. http://www.rootsweb.com/~gacobb/ Richard ---------- Original Message ----------- From: "Shari Handley" <srh@tyaskin.com> To: STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Thu, 15 Jan 2004 11:49:45 -0500 Subject: [STATE-COORD] Destruction of Kings Creek Plantation Cemetery > It is so upsetting when developers (or anyone, for that matter) > desecrates an old cemetery.
