Some of you may already know that the Gov. of the state of Michigan wants to close the Michigan State Library and Archives {meaning the archives would be sold or thrown away!!] All to make up a budget deficit of several BILLION dollars. Closing the archive will only save 2 or so MILLION in the budget. In the empty building they want to put a kids science center, which will cost MUCH more than they will save with the closing of the archive. The closing is now almost a sure thing and if nothing is done, other state governors/legislatures etc. may think this is a good way to cut budgets. Do you want your state archives to close???
