Several of the counties in Idaho have gravestone photos that were contributed long before I became SC or the current coordinator became CC and there is nothing to identify who the photographer or the contributor was. All we know is that the coordinator at the time the photos were posted (we don't even know who that CC was) said they had permission to post the photo. One of our coordinators has been asked for permission to upload the photos to Find A Grave. Have any of you faced this situation? If so, how did you handle it? If not, how would you handle it? Mike St. Clair State Coordinator - IDGENWEB
Mike: I do not feel comfortable with allowing anyone to copy for any reason and post any record donated to my NM State/County sites: however I have given permission for others to link to several of our tombstone, death and marriage sites for home genealogy research only. These records are donated to the XXGenWeb sites for free home use only. (I added the Home Use). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Harold Kilmer, NMGenWeb SC http://www.nmgenweb.us/ CC for Curry, De Baca, Guadalupe, Harding, Lea, Lincoln, Quay, and Roosevelt Counties in New Mexico. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mike St. Clair/ST" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, December 29, 2009 10:31 AM Subject: [STATE-COORD] Your Guidance is Requested - Cemetery Photos > Several of the counties in Idaho have gravestone photos that were > contributed long before I became SC or the current coordinator became CC > and there is nothing to identify who the photographer or the contributor > was. That has happened with us in WI, although to my knowledge the contributor was always known, and if I received the request I forwarded it to the contributor for permission. I would be very leary about sharing unknown contributor photos with projects/organizations outside of USGenWeb. I will be interested in the responses you receive. Tough call -- such good genealogical information not to share. Good luck, and let me know how it works out.
