I loved the page on the EagleLarks. It's wonderful to have such a great group! My only problem is that on Saturdays I also wear red and while...but I yell..."GO OU!!" <VBG> (On Sundays I'm yelling, "Don't hurt McNair!!") I'm a big Titans fan. Wasn't it a contest rather than people being given one choice? I do remember that the one that won wasn't my favorite. Joy, I rather agree with your earlier assessment. It was way too 'busy'. If a new design is accepted, I would like to suggest that people be given the right to use any of the designs that have been designated as official. The current official logos may not fit into some people's page design, so it would be better if we all have a choice. Besides, David is correct. It will take us another 5 years to get some people to switch to the new one. Connie Joy Fisher wrote: > The original logo was approved by the voters. Well, yes and no. No, there is not ONE official USGW logo. Yes, there are SEVERAL *official* USGW logo's and even a few that are "unofficial" but "authorized". Thank you from all the EagleLarks. They are a pretty special group. Although they love to have fun, they are the hardest working group I think I've ever seen. They even solve puzzles that have nothing to do with genealogy. Over the years, we've put one county clerk in touch with another county clerk to find out the price of road tar, researched a famous/infamous person's genealogy in order to help a 4-H group get funding for fixing up a cemetery and the latest was to figure out if a 5-lb bar that was dug up in Louisiana was made of lead, gold, or some other metal. Turns out it was a lead ingot from an Omaha smelter. Don't ask me how that to solve that last one. It involves looking up metallurgical tables and figuring out the weight of various metals. <grin> Connie Tina S Vickery wrote: > Connie, that is wonderful! > > Tina > SC WIGenWeb Project > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Connie Snyder" <cjsnyder@alltel.net> > To: <STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Monday, September 15, 2003 10:47 PM > Subject: Re: [STATE-COORD] National Logo > > > > Um... what are EagleLarks? > > > > > > > That's a term that we call our volunteers. I think that Carolyn has a great idea here. It would make it so much easier for everyone to make the changes. When I became a member of USGenWeb in 1998, I was told to always use USGenWeb, never use GenWeb, as GenWeb belonged to someone else. I have enforced that rule since becoming an SC. The official USGenWeb logo was adopted in 1998. The eagle logos were approved to be an alternative logo a few years later. When a member of the AB does not know there is an official logo or where to find them, why are they on the AB? The state in question uses the old GenWeb spider web logo that should have disappeared 5 years ago. This state has had plenty of time to get its act together. If you don't enforce the rules as to the states, then don't expect the SCs to enforce any rules they don't particularly care for, either. As for a new logo, design one and let's vote on it. Again. But I think USGenWeb is closely identified with the logo it has been using since 1998, and it would be a mistake to change it. Just a suggestion, IF the official logo is changed, how about requiring that the new logo sizes be identical to the old? Then it would be possible for the new logo image to replace the old by changing the image rather than requiring code changes on all pages where it appears. Carolyn
I am sure I could come up with several designs for a new logo. I agree with Joy on the old official one and the Eagle is no longer appropriate really. No, I did not know there were official logos, because I inherited my site and used the logo then in place. Two, I'm not a member of the site police.....if such an organization exists it must be a Black Ops situation. Three, I keep my nose in my own county and State, unless a problem is brought to the Advisory Board's attention. Which this one has yet to be done properly. Now, I guess that the situation becomes what is the definition of "prominent." But, for the SCs info: Hawaii has a very small USGenWeb logo on the page you are taken to from the USGenWeb Project list of States. I cannot see it well enough to know what it's design is. The Twin-Territories do not have the Project logo, OR it did not come up for me and I did wait quite awhile. Oklahoma trapped me and the only way I knew I could get out of there was to go back home first, but the logo was there. Alabama kept shutting me down....back to my main screen, so I didn't have to re-boot the computer, just had to log back onto the 'net. Finally, I got through and the logo is there. And, to see if any of you are as old as I am, or used the same song book in music class: The State that does not have the logo on the page you are taken to from the Project list, is the answer to this question: "What did Delaware?"
