As the new State Coordinator in Idaho, I wanted to let you all know that we have some vacancies among our ranks and to let you know that we are inviting individuals who might be interested in joining our state project to express their interest. We are currently seeking new coordinators for the following counties: Adams, Bannock, Butte, Camas, Custer, Elmore, Lincoln, Minidoka You do not have to reside in or near a county in order to serve as coordinator but you should have some understanding of the county you volunteer to adopt, with ideally a personal connection within your ancestral family and/or some experience researching families who have lived there. Please review our "draft" Guidelines for IDGENWEB members at http://www.idgenweb.org/idgenweb_main_volunteers.php. They may change (we are discussing them now) before being formally adopted but the draft will give you a reasonable idea of what will be expected. Appointments are made by the State Coordinator after reviewing the applicant's interest, background and experience, and in consultation with the Assistant State Coordinator. Although successful experience in other USGENWEB projects is a plus, it is not required in order to be appointed. You would be joining a talented and enjoyable group of coordinators and we invite any of you who have Idaho connections to apply. Note that there are several other counties which will likely become available by the end of the year. We would be happy to place you on the waiting list for any of our other counties, giving you priority consideration when a county you are interested in becomes available. If you are not personally interested, but know someone who might be, you are encourage you to pass this announcement on to those individuals. Mike St. Clair State Coordinator - IDGENWEB

******************************Please Share With All Project Lists ************************************ The USGenWeb Project is seeking volunteers to serve on a committee to revise the CC Guidelines and SC Guidelines documents. This committee will consist of no more than five project members from all areas of the membership (county/local coordinators, state coordinators, special project and AB members). The purpose of the committee is to draft a guidelines/standards document to replace the current SC and CC Guidelines in order to better align with Article VI, Section 5 of the Bylaws. This document is actually a precursor for two other agenda items, the administrative responsibilities of State Coordinators/Special Project Managers and the revision of the EC procedures. The committee will report back to the AB with a completed document by 3 Jan 2010 so that the two items mentioned above can also be dealt with. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please submit a completed Volunteer form located at http://usgenweb.org/volform.shtml and be sure to include all sites that you coordinate and the POSITION that you're applying for as there is already an ongoing call out for the position of the NENC Representative . Michael Andrews, ASC Minnesota *************************** Please Forward to Applicable Project Lists ******************************* I wanted to give everyone an update on the sites that are hosted at theusgenweb.org or MTGenWeb, WIGenWeb, SDGenWeb - Hopefully I've not missed any. Due to the latest infection, ftp access was removed from all websites hosted on the above domains late evening on the 21st of October. We chose to take this course so that we could determine where the infected files were coming from. With only a couple of us changing files, it has made it easy to see what other IP addresses have been gaining access to the server account. By shutting down ftp access, it appears that we contained the infection, thank goodness. We want to be sure of that, though, so until we can make our way through everything one more time, no passwords will be issued. I realize that many of you are chomping at the bit to get back to working on your sites. We will get you back to them as soon as we can. In the meantime, you should know that we're removing scripts and php from sites that don't use them. If you use php or any script that is loaded on the server, you'll need to let me know and it will be reinstalled for your site. This step is being taken because most of the infections are using either cgi scripts or php - and we want to curtail any opportunity for infection of our/your sites. Any sites that are not being used are also being deleted. Again, this is so that we don't give the hackers easy places to hide his/her files. If we delete a site and you decide you want to host your site on theusgenweb.org, let me know and we'll rebuild it. We don't want to prevent anyone from hosting their site on this account, we just want to tighten things up. Thanks for your patience as we continute to work through these issues.
