Is this the last message that has been sent about the elections? Apparently the link has been repaired but this is the last message I have received and was waiting on a revised one to send to our state mailing list. Has anyone had to try a work-around for Homesite on Windows 7? It's not supported by the company anymore. Linda
If you have win7 pro, you can set up an XP partition. Homesite does run in the XP Partition. Another try (this has worked for other programs - I have not tried it for Homesite): 1. Open your CD in WinExplorer. Right click on install file and Click on "Troubleshoot Compatibility" If it installed OK, but won't run, right click on the installed program. 2. click on "Troubleshoot program" 3. click "program worked in earlier versions of Win" 4. choose what flavor of WinX it last ran under and try installing or running it. I have been using HTMLKit instead of HomeSite (in case you can't get HomeSite to work). ________________________________ From: Linda <cityslic@ix.netcom.com> To: state-coord <state-coord@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, May 11, 2012 3:05 PM Subject: [STATE-COORD] HTML Editors - Homesite Has anyone had to try a work-around for Homesite on Windows 7? Have any state coordinators used the form mentioned in the post below to make updates and requested a copy of the updated list be sent to you? I am just wondering how long it takes to receive it. Thanks, Linda Blum-Barton SC The GAGenWeb Project From: <kyvitals@windstream.net> Subject: [STATE-COORD] FW: Automated Form to Submit Updates to the EC Date: Tue, 10 Apr 2012 4:31:02 -0500 The Election Committee now has the automated form up and working for State Coordinators to use to submit your updates - please see the message below from Chrisina Palmer, the acting committee chair of the EC. This is an OPTION for you to use - you can always sumbit your changes to the EC regional reps when you receive the request for updates. If you use the automated form to submit your updates, once submitted, you get the option of requesting a copy of the spreadsheet for your state. This allows you to do an "audit" to ensure that all of your corrections have been recorded and should cut down on the last minute corrections prior to the national election. (The form can be used at any time to submit your updates, not just when they're been requested by the EC.) *forgive any duplication as I'm sending this to two lists* Hi all, Wanted to share that the NCGenWeb NC Yearbook Index now has more than * 30,000* names. If you had any persons of interest attend school in NC you may want to check it out. The index focuses largely on graduating classes from 1931 and prior, but there are some later classes. There are students from all over the county so you'll likely find students from your respective states. For example, there are 1,000 students who list a SC city as their hometown. I've also now added options for getting updates by RSS feed and/or email - more at http://www.ncgenweb.us/nc-yearbook-30000-names. If you'd like to link to the list of students from your state, you can use this format and just replace the state with yours - http://www.ncgenweb-data.com/ybook/resultlist.php?state=TN. To link to any particular county, use this format - http://www.ncgenweb-data.com/ybook/resultlist.php?county=fulton&state=GA and replace the county and state accordingly. As the site is database-driven, it updates as I add more to the index. And, I have to send a great big thanks to Linda K. Lewis who did the PHP code for me :-) Thanks! -- Taneya Y. The easiest way to solve the problem is have them "abstract" the data (names/dates) instead of copying directly every word. I am under the impression that she can't scan them al all for any thing. This is getting confusing and way to complex for a simple task of sharing with others since this is only an obituary being shared with others. Then I am assuming that every person that submitted to the USGenWeb Archive Project is infringing upon the copyright by scanning it and submitting them to the Archive on the internet. You and I know that is not true, and that you MUST ask permission to republish any copyrighted material unless you can claim fair use of that material. But you would be surprised how common the misconception is that simply citing the source absolves you of the need to obtain permission. And of course Matt is correct that the source should ALWAYS be cited, regardless of whether the quoted material is copyrighted or public domain. Republishing material (copyrighted or not) without attribution is plagiarism, but is not necessarily copyright infringement. Pat Asher
Overall, All WE need to do is cite our work or resources, just like I have to do every single time I write an essay for my history class in the university and graduate program. I am to the point that every time I put something online I find a citation source and add it. So citing it is upmost important! 1. Name of Newspaper 2. Date of Publication 3. Page No. & Column No. (if available).
