Some belt tightening as it were.You know, in Sam Walton's book he tells people how to prosper in regard to his stores. He says to not compete head on because he will bury you. But to sell what he doesn't. Ever ask yourself why when Wal Mart builds a new store all the other big box companies cluster around.  I worked seventeen years at Wal Mart, most as Sporting Goods department manager. I was Academy Sports worst enemy and best salesman at the same time. It seems that people would get a new computer, their first usually, and immediately start looking for their family tree. The number one thing after pornography to search for on a computer. I haven't seen a message like that in years. Back then the USGenweb was the most prominent source around. There were others that soon drifted away to wherever it is that old website go.     3. Amen! I published my stuff on multiple ethical sites to help curate and remain accessible. And I expressly forbid uploading my images to Ancestry or FindAGrave. For a couple of years I searched Ancestry images for infringements and was able to get them to remove the images. Those days are now history.Linda K.     3. Findagrave (Ancestry) will be the first to complain that their items have been lifted, but they don't follow the same rules for their volunteers. We had a situation back some years that where we made a request to have either the spreadsheet removed or give credit. It too had its fallacies so it was easy to prove. They eventually quit arguing and refused to process our request. So, I look it like this - we want the information out there for folks to find. We know we do great work through our projects and that's really all that counts. Is it unethical? You bet it is! But we do our best not to be like them.     3. I feel you on the FindAGrave issue. I have had many complete cemetery transcriptions with photos, my typos and all, completely stolen and published there by others. FindAGrave does not care.     3. Hi Jan, I am logged into FB and given the site in the search engine. Zilch! Basically it doesn’t matter. The other sites give so much more that kind of leaves us in the ditch. Most of what I have personally done has been stolen. Like a transcript I did, which appears on Find A Grave as work this person did. I know it’s mine because he lives out of State. While he could have come here and transcribed it, he didn’t because it includes graves that are not marked. The township supervisor let me go thru all the permits and I included them. No one came to him for that info, as I know him personally. So where did this person get it? He stole it. The guy has pirated my photos. The one that annoyed me the most was of my Mothers military marker. How can two different people photo a stone and the same exact leaves appear on it? I wrote Find A Grave and they don’t care. They won’t remove it and all the inaccurate info from her stone and other family members. I have come to the conclusion that they can’t be stopped. I loved our project and worked with Pam Reid and also with Kathy Jones-Hudson as her Assistant National Coordinator for many years. I came to the conclusion you can’t Fight City Hall. Unless we can bring our project up to some of the other projects standards, we’ll stay lost in the trenches. It’s so very sad. Sorry about the long email but this is what I feel.
