    3. RE: Jonathan Whitaker Bagby and second wife Martha Starr. Thanks so much for everyone replies. They did answer several questions. My interest started with Martha's first husband Matthew T. Sparks. He died in Andersonville Prison during the Civil War. He died July 9th 1864. Martha and Matthew had three children, John, Elizabeth and Matthew. She then married Jonathan Whitaker Bagby on December 8th 1867. Here is where it has an interesting turn. On April 9th, 1869 a Jeremiah Sparks [Martha's first husbands brother] files for guardianship of Martha's three children by Matthew Sparks. He is granted guardianship and also collects military pension from the government to help in there support. Those three children grew and lived with their Uncle Jeremiah. As far as can be determined they all three lived and died near Lynnville, Iowa. She entered marriage with Jonathan Bagby with three children of her own and he had five children from his first marriage. That would be a lot of mouths to feed. I would be interested in knowing why she gave up her children by her first marriage. They the proceed to produce four children between them. Martha Starr, Sparks, Bagby is buried in Grangeville Cemetery, Armona, Kings Co, CA. OLD Section - Lot 365 - Space 1. There is a small marker that only says "Martha Bagby" Jonathan W. Sparks is also buried there according to they records available at the cemetery. I could find no marker for his grave. [I have a picture of her grave marker if interested]. I would like very much to have additional information regarding the descendants of Jonathan and Martha. It's always interesting to learn more.
