Lynette Ok.. HI THERE COUSIN... I knew I remembered the name Elizabeth Pack so I've been digging out all my old letters... here's a copy of some a Glenda Knipstein sent me. She lives here in Austin and I need to call her again as it's been awhile since I talked to her. Apparently there are two Robert Pearsons who are cousins.. 1 has brother James.. other has brother Tom.. James New letters follow:) 11900 Oak Trail Austin, Texas 78753 Dear Mr. Besheres, Many thanks for the informative letter on the Wells of Franklin County, Tennessee. I cannot say if the Daniel W. Wells mentioned in the papers you sent is the father to my great-great grandfather Thomas Wells. Thomas was born about 1813 in Kentucky or Tennessee. If Daniel Was bor about 1801, he would have been too young to have been Thomas' father. This Daniel W. and my Thomas could have bee brothers tough. Maybe their father was a Daniel and that is where some of my older Wells get the name Daniel for Thomas' father. I would be very happy to see the other papers you have on the Wells from Virginia and Maryland to Tennessee. If you feel like making copies of them, I would be glad to pay for the copies and for the postage. Maybe if I have information on each end of the Wells line, I can fill n the missing middle section. Is the J.W. Willis who did the Pack and Wells research still alive? I would like to write to him if you have his current address. Is he related to Callis Willis who was reared by James Wells and his wife? I met one of Callie's grand daughters (or great grand daughter) when I was in Franklin County in 1982 and went to cemetery day at the Cumberland Cemetery I Alabama. Yesterday I talked with one of Mack Crabtree Wells' grand daughters in Shelbyville… she is Ethel Rice Taylor, her mother was Letha Wells. Ethel is 93 and sounds pretty spry on the phone. She said she does not know much Wells history. She said when she was a girl, people did not talk much about their ancestors… shey were too busy working and trying to survive! She does have Daniel Wells as Thomas' father on her pedigree chart. I do not really know too much about the Catchings of Frankling Co.. there are no Catchings I my direct line. Besides Beryman Wells wife, Mary Elizabeth Catchings, I have one other Catchings relative. She was Betty (Elizabeth) Pearson and she married Andrew Catchings in Franklin Co.. They eventually came to Texas. Betty is the sister to my gr-gr grandmother, Susan Jane Pearson. Susan Jane Pearson had a brother named Spicer (Henry) Pearson. Spicer's grandson, Alton Pearson, lives in Cowan. I wonder if you might know him. Susan, Better and Spicer had two brothers who married PACK girls. I was under the impression that Robert and James Pearson married these two Pack sisters in Tennessee, but they may have married them in Illinois. The mother to the Pack girls was Elizabeth and was born in Tennessee. Some of the Pearsons went to Illinois after the Civil War and I thin James married Mary Pack there. I think this Mary was a sister to the two Pack sisters that the Pearson brothers married earlier. Both of the first two Pack sisters died. I'm sorry this is a little confusing.. this is secondhand information…… I would like to know more about you. What do you do for a living? Do you have any children? Are you actively involved in genealogy research? I am 36 years old and married. My husband is an engineer with the state's air pollution monitoring agency. We have 4 spoiled cats! I have a degree in biology from the University of Texas, but I have not worked since I got married in 1973…work interferes with my having fun and doing genealogy! I have one brother, Terry, who lives in San Antonio. Terry is an engineer-manager for a company there. He is married and has Mark (10), Matthew (8) and Joanna (2). He is interested in our family history, but he does have to WORK! My father was Matison M. Wells, the son of Jack W. Wells and the grandson of Matison (Madison) Wells of Franklin County. The Wells came to Texas in 1881 from Franklin Co. My father worked I a drug store for a nmbr of years and then for the City of Austin before he died of a hear attack in 1970 at the age of 53. Old man Matison was a Confederate Soldier. Take care and I hope to hear from you when you have time. Sincerely… Glenda Wells Kipstein (Letter from Chester R. Shans, 747 Lagone Ct, Fairfield, Ca. 94553) July 29, 1982 Hi John, Will write you a few lines. Just as you are getting back from the reunion I guess. Sure wish I could make it, but it would cost me a cool thousand bucks to make the trip and these bucks are not that easy to come by. I'll send the pictures I was telling you about. This picture was taken in about 1898-1899. It's in front of the old Pearson Home Place aoubt 12 miles s.e. of Austin, better know as Pilot Knob. As you look at the picture to the left the little gire is my mother. The old man is my great grand father. He is the one killed or help kill the doctor and spent about 14 years in Huntsville. The old lady is his wife. Her name was Rachel Davis before she married him. His name was Robert L. Pearson. The lady standing behind him in black is my grandmother, she married a Barker. Her name was Nannie. The other lady is her sister named Frankie Pearson. The man standing is their brother also named Robert. The little boy is the son of one of the sisters who was dead at that time, his name is Chester Cowan… still lives on the old place. John, my brother who lives close to me here is coming down there I Oct. I'll have him look you up, He is real interested in the Pearsons an knows the history a lot better than I. I would like to know what relations you and I are. I remember my grandmother talking about your mother, and the name Starr. I think our folks came from Giles and Franklin County in Tenn. This picture was taken right after my great grandfather got out of prison. He and his brother, Tom, killed the Doctor (Dr. Jas. C. Stevall) on March 16, 1885. Uncle Tom did 30 years in Huntsville. I don't remember Uncle Tom, but I remember my great grandfather. He died in 1918, I was only 3 years old. Well John!! I hope you had a good time the reunion, sure you did. I'll sure be at the one next year in Dallis. If I don't see you before then I'll sure see you there. What was you in the 9th or 23rd inf? I was in Hq, Btry 12th f.a. Drop me a line John, I try to write you sooner next time. Take Care…. Chester (Letter from Connie A. No one ever knew for sure who killed him. Major I was told died in a trayler house trying get out a grandchild. Seems they had some sisters. Tom my grandpa always told me about Uncle Spice. Someone cut his guts out at a little store in Tennessee. He got over even this & one day walked up behind this man & cut his head off. Mildred McCutshield(??) one of James Pearson great great grand chldren got up some of the information that I have. She was Ed Pendergrass daughter. Her father married James Pearson daughter, Julia. She has down that… James, Bob, Sam, Spice, Aunt Sook married Dan Guinn, Betsy married Andy Catchings. Hope this is plane to you. This is all I know about my side. My grandpa, Tom, always call your great great grandmother Aunt Sook. So I always took it she was a sister of Bob & James & ot a sister to Bob & Tom. After you rote & said Aunt Sook was a sister Bob & Tom Now I don't know. Tom Pearson married Mary Starr. Tom Pearson born Aug 11, 1860 died Oct 10, 1937. Mary E. Starr Pearson born April 7, 1856 died May 9, 1928. Mary E. Starr married a Hankins who went to the Penn for stealing a wagon & mules.. thought to have died in Prison. She married grandpa Tom. She had one Son Charley Hankins before she & Pa married. She and Pa had 8 children: 1. Eliza Pearson Webb Mar 02 1883-died Dec 26, 1966 2. Mary Alice Pearson Gibson born 01-30-1885 died 10-15-1918 3. William Andrew Pearson born 12-7-1891 died -8-03-1974 (my father) 7. Sam Arthur Pearson born 4-30-1893 died 3-27-1935 8. Lillie Mae Pearson Barker Harman born July 18 1897 died Jan 27 1960 Bobs Brother James (old uncle Jim) He married one of the Pack sisters. Don't know her name. They had 4 girls Lottie, Millie, Tegue, Julie Millie (Aunt Meal) married Grandma Pearson grother Andrew Starr. Dan Starr married Lottie. Dan was a frist cousin to Andrew. Julie married James Pendergrass. Teauge married a Gibson. Then old Uncle Jim married Aunt Mary a sister to his first wife. I knew her well. The had 3 children Peggie, Albert & Barbra. This about covers all I know about the older Pearsons. I will see if I have a picture of my great grandpa & a picture of Bob Pearson that his great grandson sent him from California. Sent him a letter & some pictures. Haven't heard from him. His name is Chester R. Shans Will send him u a copy of his letter. I have a boo history of the Pearson in 20 century I fine no connection with our family but is ver enlightening on the Pearson. Eugene J. Pearson got this up but the last time I wrote for information on getting the book he had died but his wife wrote me. 3. Lynette, Don't leave us though..... BEing one of the few who is interested in the Adam, Hannah and family, we need to stick together so we can share information. You have a wealth of info there kiddo and we'd love to see what you have. By sharing with us, you help us all tie in to our roots and this is very important. I think you have probably more than most of us do. I know Crystal, Ted, and I -- not to mention Glenn (who's not on this list but comes from Adam through Catherine) -- are all interested in learning everything we can about our roots. It seems to me you have a lot you could share if only you would do so. Please don't leave us all to continue to search and never be able to find what we need. By sharing, you lose nothing but may gain a lot. Definitely good family friends -- if nothing more. I figure if we are all from Adam -- no matter if we're from Orville, George, Catherine, John, Andrew, Givens - - or any of the others -- then we are family -- distant cousins, but still family. And family helps each other out. So please share what you have with us. If not over the internet, please make copies of what all you have and send to one or all of us. I know I'll be more than happy to pay for a copy of everything you have now and everything you come up with in the future. If you want, make me a copy and then I'll make copies of it all and send to the others. B y sharing we all gain; by not sharing, we all lose out in the long run. Please think about this, ok? And, feel free to join Matt, I might check in there too. Just don't know if it's be a good place for me as I am trying to search our roots first and then am open for other "lines." Make sense? Take care and stay in touch and please keep the info coming. di TexasRio@aol.com wrote: > would love to join...lynette

    3. Thanks, Crystal. As for Debbie's inquiry (note, I haven't even been in to look at the posts there!). She's talking about another Adam Starr. There were two -- at least. The one she's talking about married Mary Keck and that's a different Adam. I thought he was ours, but if he married her she must have died VERY young as she had her first child at age 12. Plus, nothing fits. So.... I really thought I was on to something there but was mistaken. I'll send her an email -- thanks for her address and Julie's as well. You're right on top of things. di Crystal Burleson wrote: > Diana, Her email address is: <tjbmylove@juno.com>. " 7 f mo pawper A History of Blanco County( The Pemberton Press) The year of 1864 was a continuation of the privations, hardships and oft-recurring bereavments of the last year. And to add to our privations a great many things that we could make a home were worn out. In fact, our wants were so urgent that the government came to our aid by furnishing us with cooton cards, and other things that could not be obtained otherwise. The spinning wheels and looms were made at home. We had plenty of wool: sewing cotton we got mostly in the neighborhood of San Marcos. The Confederate direct tax was very heavy but was paid in Confederate money: consequently there was but little complaint. The tax in kind, however, was considered ruinous; we had to bring corn, wheat, and bacon to the tax collector, but if our own men could have had it for rations instead of what they did have, we would have paid it gladly. As it was, we were so far from the camp that it did little or no good. The indiians made raids occasionally and would kill a beef and drive out a few horses, but these we did not dread like the bushwackers. If we speid a red man we knew that he was an enemy, but how could we tell on meeting a strange white man whether he be friend or foe. There were then, and always will be, "busy-bodies', carrying news, and informing one party against another. Jesse Starr and a Mr. Williams, who lived near Wimberly Mill were in the brush, and was reported that they were starting to Mexico and that they were coming by Blanco to kill two or three of our citizens, naming the men. A squad of rangers met them on Wansley, about ten miles east of Blanco. They showed fight and both were instantly killed, a few hundred yards apart. In these troubled times an ungaurded word would sometimes expose a good man to the suspicion of being on the wrong side. It is truly remarkable that under the excitment existing at that time there was no more harm done than was done. coincidental compared to family story of jesse death which was supposed to be Andrew, john, orville, givens, janes, etc brother insert from book I found at historical library... lynette

    3. It looks like a number used in libraries. I'll check to see what is in that area. Other than that, I don't know. Diana Starr wrote: > I have no idea. Ted? Crystal? 3. Diana, Her email address is: <tjbmylove@juno.com>. I have written to her asking for more information, but haven't received a reply yet. I also read a post on there by a Debbie Starr who was responding to a post by you in which you mentioned Adam and Hannah. Debbie asks if Adam is the brother of her ancestor, Peter Starr. She felt that there were a lot of similarities between the children in that family and the children of Adam and Hannah's families. She says, "Peter Starr was born in Virginia in 1797 and married a Catherine...Do you know the father's name of your Adam? The name of my Peter is Henry. That is all I know." Interesting. Her email address is <casper99@networksplus.net>. Let's keep the communications going. What fun! Crystal Diana Starr wrote: > Crystal, > Good info. 3. I agree with you. I don't know if I'd care to go someplace else to see if I could find stuff on my Starrs. This list is supposed to be open for discussion about the Starrs and even though many are not mine, I still enjoy reading about them and learning about them. After all, they are part of our history no matter what line they are from. And I love getting the interviews, storied and other info.... We share here and learn and help each other out no matter what Starr we are searching for. di LBCane@aol.com wrote: > I thought that if you are researching the Starrs that this was the list to > get on..or if someone had info to pass on that was of genealogy nature I > thought that is what this list was for...me personally I like reading and > Sending Interviews...and the listings of other Starrs..even though they are > not mine..sometimes you never know what clue you might get from them...if I > am wrong please let me know....I will find the right list to get on....Thank > you LBCane@aol.com
