Chuck, My gggrandfather was David Starr born in Ohio about 1818. That's as far back as I can go. He's the one I was lamenting earlier. Are you the first of your family to live in Arkansas or did some earlier generations move there? My Starrs came through Missouri into Arkansas. But, beware, there are several different branches of Starrs there. Glad to hear from you. Hi Marie, Glad to know you're here still. It's really been quiet and I've been wondering why. Guess it's the holiday season and everyone is "resting." Remember, one of these days, your David is going to show up. I still look for him too -- just for you and every David I see, I wonder if and then look at the date(s). You will find him. So just hang in here. Maybe after the holidays, things will "heat up" again and he'll be found. I hope so. I'm glad you're finding stuff on another line. That is always good too. For me, everything is at a standstill. This will pass -- at least I hope so. Take care. di Marie and Bill Bailey wrote: > Hey Diana, > Just sitting back. Good evening Starr friends and relatives Maybe I can give you something to think about anyway. I joined the list a couple of weeks ago and have just been sitting back "listening". Hey Diana, Just sitting back. I had a little luck on one of my other lines and have been working on it. Keeping me from being discouraged about not placing poor 'ole David with a family before him yet. I'm still watching, though. Howdy there! Way too quiet in our world right now. Where is everyone? Hope all is well. Recovering from Thanksgiving? and gearing up for the Christmas holidays I guess?? Just wondering. di
Well, di... I have the same problem... the standstill one. My standstill goes back to Joseph Starr Crane who married in Baltimore in 1808. I can't find his mom or dad, and his place of birth eludes me... NJ, MD or who knows. One thing genealogy does teach you is patience! I wish you all success! Diane
Thank you RJKessler; that narrows it down some. RafB
There is a supplement that came out almost at the same time as the orginal work which contains corrections and additions to the original.
Hello out there Starr cousins in law and others interested in Starr lineages. I say cousins in law because I am not a Starr descendant but my dear wife is; a direct descendant of the Dr. Comfort Starr lineage. Anyway, I am told that there may exist such a "supplement". Does anyone know this to be true and, if so, how may I go about purchasing a copy? Ralph Banks (RafB@aol.com), Austin, TX
Do you know if it has the "Supplemental" info? I've been looking for that in hard copy. You can also order and view this whole book on microfilm at the LDS Family History Center near you. It is on film #1,033,860. Of course, it isn't as convenient as having your own, but less expensive, I'm sure. If you find your family on it and then want the book you could purchase one. Hi everyone, or O'siyo as I have just learned. Assuming that Adam and Hannah knew what they were putting on the 1850 census for the birthplaces of their children (I know that later on their birth places are shown differently for several of them), but assuming, as I said, that they put the right places down on that census then Adam was born in VA about 1799, and the children born in Ohio in the mid 1820's through about 1838. Then two children born in Illinois about 1840 and 1842, and then on to Missouri where Givens was born in 1844 etc. Diana mentioned once that Mary Jane was supposed to have been born in Jackson Co., OH (abt 1832). There is a land patent for an "Adam Starr of Jackson County, Ohio..." which was signed on June 25, 1841. That doesn't exactly match what is on the census for dating. However, it is very much a coincidence don't you think? Anyway, there are also land patents in Illinois for "Adam Starr", two in Logan Co (1837 and 1839) and one in Vermilion Co. (1826) which states "Adam Starr of Sangamon County, Illinois...". The 1830 census index for Ohio says there is an entry for Adam Starr in Jackson Co. However, I could not find it on the film. Does anyone have that? In VA here is what is in the index: 1787 census: Jacob, Merick, Michael, and Thomas Starr 1790 census: Catherine Starr 1810 census: Elizabeth, Fredrick, John, and Richard Starr 1820 census: Anthony, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Hezekiah, Jeremiah, John, John, Richard, and William Starr 1830 census: Henry, Jr., Henry, Sr, James, Jeremiah, Lewis, and Peter Starr Too bad the older census' don't have family members listed by name. On the 1830 Ohio census there are a lot of Starrs. On the 1840 Ohio census there are LOTS of Starrs. Just like the stars in the sky, there are sooooo many of them. We'll all keep searching until we can connect the dots. Have a great day. Crystal
Crystal, O'siyo is Hello in Cherokee and Wado is Thanks or thank you. I have begun to learn a little of the Cherokee language. I will be glad to share what little knowledge I have of the language with you and am hoping to learn more of it so I can eventually write in Cherokee and speak it well. OK, you Cherokee Starrs. I need a little help here. I received an email from a lady yesterday that began with "Osiyo" and ended with "Wado". I'm assuming that the first is a greeting and the last a farewell. Could you please instruct me? I'm wanting to learn, but need your help. What do they mean? Thanks. Crystal

Hi Neal, I still have so much more to share with everyone...just have to have the time to type it all up! Sampson was not a common name in the Starr families...so this is probably yours...you think? Carol Ann,
