I am a descendant of Dr. E. W. Starr and Elvira Ruse Starr who are buried in Linwood Cemetery, Columbus, GA. The family came to Georgia from Richmond, VA in the 1830s. Edward Worthington was a homeopathic doctor in Columbus, GA. Though Edward died during the Civil War, he did not die in the Civil War as he was quite an elderly gentleman by that time. However, his son, Francis Ruse Starr did enlist briefly as a private and is said to have been an Episcopal chaplain in the war. Edward's wife, Elvira, was the daughter of John Ruse of Philadephia, later of Richmond. We have very little information on this family. Edward Worthington is the son of Hezekiah Starr (1781-1828) and Julia Ann DaShiell who had five children: George, John Caroline, Edward Worthington, and Charles. Only Edward and Charles have descendants. Hezekiah Starr is one of three brothers of Baltimore: Henry, William and Hezekiah. Henry was a tavern keeper, and William and Hezekiah were in the tobacco trade together. William's son, Robert, continued the business in Baltimore after Hezekiah moved to Richmond c. 1816. We do not know the origin of these three brothers, though we suspect they were born in America. A recent research trip to Baltimore was fruitless. All three brothers have descendants. We want to hear from anyone else out there who is also from one of these lines! LeAnna Starr Biles

A friend of mine spotted some STARR tombstones while walking through Linwood Cemetery; it's Edward W. Starr b. in Baltimore, MD 1813, killed during the CW and his wife. The third tombstone is wife of Homer STARR (who I believe was their son, but I might err on that.) She didn't say where Linwood Cemetery is located, but probably in or near Columbus, GA. It might appear on the marker in front, but I didn't spend much time with the small print. http://www.wso.net/gamuscog/pictures.htm I'd rather a descendant provide the details on this family, but I have a few things about them. I believe the middle initial stands from "Worthington" and the family resided in Richmond, VA before moving on to GA. Linda Sparks Starr starr81@ix.netcom.com http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~lksstarr/
My father, James C. Starr (formerly of E. Hartford, CT) was born 3/22/1945 (deceased 9/25/1997) to William Starr and Ruth Strumberg Starr (deceased) of Glastonbury, CT. He never met his father, who left the family to pursue a musical career in the Chicago area (or so we're told). William Starr was raised by a woman, Dr. Warner (deceased), who claimed to have found the infant on her doorstep. It was never made clear how she came by the "Starr" surname. Dr. Warner may have lived in Southern Massachussetts, but is buried in Manchester, CT. Unfortunately, I have no access to more information on any of these people and all are deceased. There's not much information to go on, but if anyone has information concerning any of these individuals or possible links to them, I'd love to unravel the mystery. Thank you! Wow! What a New Year's Day yu had. I think it's good Nicholas got caught -- and I hope you and Barb don't just get him out of jail. I think maybe going in front of a judge might be what he needs. This should scare him enough that he'll be willing to go into treatment to get himself straightened out big time. A few days in jail won't hurt him as they don't usually put you in a situation where you're in danger of anything nasty happening (how do I know? Chris was in jail for a few hours once.). Anyway, this could really be a blessing in disguise. Let me kw what happens on Monday. I can't wait to hear! Hang tough and don't let him get to Barb's "mothering" side or she'll have him out in no time and nothing will change. Love ya, di Neal & Barbara wrote: > YOU got it sweetheart! I am trying to find the origins of my ggg grandfather, Roswell Starr. I have two birth dates for him, 1745 and 1767. The 1767 date is more reasonable given that his wife Lois Hawkes was born in 1771. He might have been from CT but some information shows him being born in upstate NY. Perhaps Otsego county. Lois Hawkes was born in MA and apparently came to Richfield Springs NY with her parents. The headstone from his wife's grave refers to Roswell as Col. Roswell. They had two children, Roswell and James. The second Roswell went to California for the Gold Rush and was killed there for his money. Any information would be appreciated. Dave Rosenbaum drosenbaum@houston.rr.com
I have a reprint that I got from Higginson Books. It has a compilation of articles on the Starr family in England and America. I believe the articles originally appeared in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register between 1935 and 1944. Good info! I recommend it for serious STARR researchers.
