    3. Melanie, Don't be discouraged. It takes a lot of time and work sometimes. Some families are harder to find than others, too. And we can't forget that we do get help from elsewhere. The statement "Between you and the Lord you can move mountains" is true. But we can't forget the second part: "Just don't be surprised when he hands you a shovel." Keep looking. I looked for years for clues about my German ancestors, the Wolf family. Then I came across one document that my great aunt had kept for years that gave a town in Germany. I found, at the FHC, film and fiche from the Catholic parish there and took my line back to 1600. You'll find them someday. Good luck. Crystal "Melanie Starr by way of Brian J. 3. Renee--this is truly a list for all Starrs. It's just that some of us are more "vocal" than the rest of you. Most of us have just recently found each other (because of this list) and are just really excited to share what we have with each other. Thank you all out there for your patience. Many of our communications with each other are not on this list so we don't bombard the rest of you too badly. But we do keep a lot on the list so we can pick up new people who are also in our lines and new information--which we do occasionally. Hang in there, there are many more Starr families out there than just ours. :o) I've learned that there are quite a few of you on the list that have German Starrs or Stoehrs. I really enjoy research in Germany. Even learning Old German Script so you can read the parish registers is an experience. Renee, I'm assuming that you have already found your Wisconsin Starrs on the US Census records. There should be several years covered with them on it since they died in the 1900's. Do you know where in Germany your Joseph came from? If you do there are a lot of records available in the LDS Family History Center on fiche and film that can be of help to you. I don't know where you live, but if you are near one of the larger FHCs there are people there who can give you a lot of help in finding more on them. Even at the smaller ones sometimes there are very qualified people there to help you. Good luck. 1. STERN/STARR/LEVI Heppenheim, Germany, France, Louisville, KY, Portsmouth, Zanesville, OH
    2. I am looking for members of my family who emigrated from Heppenheim an der Bergstrasse, Hessen, in Germany and seem to have ended up in Kentucky, probably Louisville, before some of them went to Portsmouth, Ohio over the river. The family were originally Jewish. Hindle or Hannah STERN (April 7 1825 Heppenheim an der Bergstrasse, Hesse, Germany -1891) married ? LEVI possibly in Louisville, Kentucky. The mystery LEVI was born in France and was either dead or not present in by 1880. He therefore may have died in Kentucky, perhaps Louisville. Children Charles (circa 1851 Kentucky (Louisville?) -?) Liquor store retailer Isaac (circa 1861 Ohio (Portsmouth?) - ?) Travelling Salesman Samuel (circa 1862 Ohio (Portsmouth?)-?) Shoe factory worker Bertha (circa 1864 Ohio (Portsmouth?)-?) Nellie (circa 1866 Ohio (Portsmouth?)-?) 1880 age 14 was living at Columbus Asylum Emanuel (Mannie) (circa 1879 Ohio (Portsmouth?)-? Zanesville, Ohio) married Beulah. Ran a store with his cousin Abram E STARR in Zanesville. According to the 1880 Scioto County census , a niece aged 26 Eva F STIR was living in the house. She would therefore have been born around 1856 in Ohio). The name STIR may be a misspelling for STERN or STARR. Hannah's elder brother Heimann (later Henry STARR) definitely lived in Louisville, Portsmouth and later Zanesville. This particular family (not my line of the family) is all traced. So if anyone has hide or hair of a LEVI family originating in France or a STERN/STARR family from Hesse, Germany, I would appreciate hearing from them. Alice Josephs UK genealicej@aol.com
