Stanton Prentice of Greene, Chenango Co., New York I have been helping Floyd Kelling in his efforts to trace the ancestry of his Stanton Prentice who first appeared in the 1820 census in Greene, Chenango Co., NY. Presently available information indicates that Stanton Prentice was born about 1760 in CT, probably in the area of New London, Stonington or Preston. Family tradition has it that Stanton Prentice "served in the revolutionary war...was taken prisoner and escaped in a barrel." With the first name of "Stanton," it seems likely that his mother, his paternal grandmother, or one of his maternal grandparents, may have Stanton roots. I've located some Stanton-Prentice marriages, but so far have not been able to show Stanton Prentice as descended from any of those marriages. I have also located two additional men who may be related to Stanton Prentice. One is named Perez Prentice who may be his brother. The other is Elijah B. Prentice, b. c. 1790-1800, who may be a son, or perhaps a nephew. If you have information which will help us identify the parents of Stanton Prentice and the other folks mentioned, please contact me.
