Richard, Nantucket is an Island off the coast of Rhode Island. It was a whaling community and is written about in verse and song. Moby Dick was based on the exploits of a Nantucket Whaler. There was just a program on the History Channel about that exact subject and mentioning Nantucket. The Stanton's on Nantucket are discussed in the book Our Ancestors the Stantons that I am in the process of putting on-line. The family descends from Robert Stanton of Rhode Island who may or may not be the brother of Thomas Stanton of Connecticut. The book discusses the possible connections between the two and when and why Robert moved to Rhode Island from Massachusetts where he had first settled after coming from England. There are some gaps in the book as it follows Robert's progeny to North Carolina and then to Ohio and skips over some of the descendants that stayed in Rhode Island and the New England area. If nothing else, it is a great read to learn about the early Stantons. It also discusses some theories on the history of the Stanton name in England.
