Hi List Reposting my interest of Stantons' in Cambridgeshire. It begins with Edward STANTON marrying Maude TAYLOR on Oct 26, 1561. I have info on Stantons' right down to the 1850's when my line migrated out to Tasmania, Australia. Anyone else researching in Cambridgeshire? Regards Jennie Chapman Queensland, Australia tapcat@sun.big.net.au
Can anyone help me with the Prudence Stanton who married Robert Fargo? "The History of Montville, Connecticut" says: "Robert, son of Robert Fargo m. 1 July 1756, Prudence STANTON, dau. of Thomas STANTON of Groton, Conn.Â…She died 19 July, 1818, aged 84 years." There seems to be several Prudence STANTONS of approximately the same time, but I can't find this one in the published STANTON genealogies, nor any references to Robert Fargo. Thanks

I was tracing back my husbands CHANDLEY line through LDS Family Search files. I made it back as far as John Chandley b.~1822 Yancy, NC. LDS files list his father as Solomon STANTON b.1784 VA m.~1814 Yancy, NC to Sarah Sally Chandley b.~1800 Yancy, NC. Now there has got to be a story here. They were married when she was 14. Son John is born 8 years later. He lives his life carrying his mother's surname, even passing it on to his children. FYI, Yancy Co. NC is NE of Buncombe Co. NC where Asheville is located. Do you know this Solomon Stanton b.1784 VA? Thank you for your thoughts on the matter of this mystery, Lisa Rose Binkley Chandley --part1_14.171e71e.25f42cd3_boundary--

Garret Neal Bryant, b. about 1805, and Sarah[Polly] or Sally Frances Stanton, b. about 1808, were my ggg grand parents. They moved from NC to TN about 1820. My grandmother, Dora Carr, always told us she was Black Dutch. I would appreciate any info concerning the Stanton ancestry that would connect with my line and any possible Black Dutch connection. Ted Haase
Re: Ted Haase's inquiry about the meaning of "Black Dutch." It occurs to me that "Black" might be a translation into English of the German word "Schwartze" which in turn could have been a mishearing of "Schweitze" which means Swiss. Grandma might have been saying her family was "Schweitze Deutsch" (Swiss German), which someone misheard/mistranslated as "Schwartze Deutsch" (Black Dutch).

I received this on another list and found this very interesting and very helpful. In the event you don't have a computer close at hand to do the calculating: REMEMBER 8870 That's not an error: It's the number to remember when you want to find the birthdate of someone when you only have the date of death and age. How do you figure the birthdate? Suppose the person died May 6, 1889, at the age of 71 years, 7 months, 9 days. ****Write the year, month, day as:->18890506 ****Subtract the age at death:------->710709 ****This gives the figure:--------->18179797 ****Now subtract 8870:----------------->8870 ****The result is:----------------->18170927 Year 1817, 9th month (Sept), 27th day or 27 Sept, 1817 >From Platte Co, MO Historical/Genealogical Society Have a great day, Don Stanton TeeSquare@ecr.net
Cousins, Many of you have seen my repeated calls for help in locating Thomas Stanton of Newark, OH. Through some creative thinking, I have located my first lead in over 70 years of our families search for this ancestor. Thomas' son Owen Stanton appears on the 1870 Licking Co. Census as being a 15 year old farm worker living with the Nathan English family. I have tried looking beyond this tidbit and have been met with failure after failure. I thought if his father was away in the war and his mother had died, where would he go? I had asked about possible places where children might go if orphaned. Turns out the Genealogy Society in Newark, OH has been operating in the building (up until this month when they move to the new library) where the county infirmary/poor house was located. Turns out it has operated since the 1830s and a lady at the society found a card on file in their records for Owen Stanton being placed there in 1855 at age 1. Much before I thought his mother died but since I have no date on that or any other info this is my best bet. The card states he was from Guernsey Co., OH and had been in Newark Twp for six weeks. It also said that he was a pauper and had been awarded money by the state for his welfare. He was placed with the Ed Jones family in 1861. His brother was always thought to be August Stanton but no record of him was ever found. Also entering the infirmary about the same time as Owen was a boy named Patrick Stanton. He was 3 at the time and was placed with an August Feuerigel (sp) in 1855. An old family tree has the name Feuereagle written in parentheses next to August Stanton's name. I believe the boy to be this Patrick and August was the man who he was discharged to. The bottom line here is now I have expanded my search to Guernsey Co., OH. I have found a Joseph Stanton in the 1830 Heads of Households census there and would like to find out if anyone has any Guernsey Co., OH Stantons. I know descendants of Robert Stanton of RI were living in Belmont Co., OH next door to Guernsey and wonder if they are related. There was also a Joseph Stanton in Belmont that is listed in "Our Ancestors the Stantons" available on my site but none of his descendants appear to be my Thomas Stanton or look like they were ever in Guernsey. I also found a marriage of a Patrick Stanton in 1872 in Trumbull Co., OH but that is much farther north of there and I believe those Stantons were from PA but if any one has any knowledge of them I would like to hear as even ruling someone out helps more than nothing. How about it? Anything sound familiar here? Denny Shirer Shirer Family Genealogy Project http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mysong/

HI Folks, There have been messages from Rootsweb this past week to some of the mailing lists, but not all, about the Virus attachments that appear to be coming from the Rootsweb mailing lists. A word of caution, you do not receive any messages from Rootsweb with attachments to them. Rootsweb's servers treat all messages with attachments as spam and automatically deletes them. If you receive and message that appears to come from one of the Mailing Lists from Rootsweb and it has an attachment, DELETE it immediately as the attachment contains one of 5 viruses. Some of these viruses appear to do no harm, but they all have an activation date in them and will do harm at the appropriate time. Some have the activation date of 12:01 AM December 24, 1999, 12:01 AM December 25, 1999, and 12:01 AM January 1, 2000, so beware of all attachemnts to your email messages, especially thoses from trusted friends, businesses, and mailing lists. During the past 10 days I have received 29 copies of the viruses. These are the first viruses I have ever received from any place in the two years I have been on the Internet. Two of the mailing lists that appear to be vulnerable to the attachments are the Rootsweb.com and OneList.com.
