    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Standish, Olmstead, Bronson Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CWJBAIB/282.1.1 Message Board Post: thanks for your answer Cherie, you may have given me the clue I needed. there was a sylvester Standish living in Broome County, NY in 1850, that the age checks out, he was living in the same county as Jonas Standish, born about 1776 and John Standish born 1804. Jonas Standish died about 1851 in Broome County. Jonas Standish appears first in the 1820 census for Lisle, NY i don't know where he was in 1810, before that he was in Berkshire, MA with his father Jonas Randall, born 1751, New London, Conn. Jonas Sr goes back to Israel, Samuel, Joseph, Myles. I don't believe that this Chauncy belongs to Lemuel Standish, There were 2 Hiram Standishes in Illinois at the same time, one the son of Lemuel, the other the brother of Chauncey. An Electa Standish died in Triangle Broome County in 1835, she was the wife of Hiram Standish and the daughter of Stephen & Polly Bronson. In the 1840 census for Du Page, Ill Hiram Standish & Polly his wife & children are living next door to Stephen ! & Polly Bronson. Also in the 1860 census for DuPage Lisle, Ill Hiram Standish is living next to Stephen and Polly Bronson, I think he married their other daughter Polly or Molly after his wife died. Jonas and Mary Chapman Standish had 3 children born in Peru, Mass, Laura, born 1799,. she died in Ill. Orrin born 1800 he died in 1803, Polly born 1802. I think the John Standish living next to Jonas is probably the son of Jonas. John married Lucy One person has Sylvester born 1828 as the son of John but I question this, there was no male child in the 1830 census for John, but there was a male child under 10 living with Jonas in 1830. John's wife Lucy died in 1876 in broome County, I don't know when John died. John & Lucy had Mary A. born 1829, Charlotte born 1830 married Almon Morgan, Harriet born about 1833, Electra bron about 1837, Charles M born about 1846, Oscar Eugene born about 1848, how accurate the above list is I don't know. Jonas married 2nd February 26, 1835! in Triangle, NY Cynthia Olmstead, daughter of Ashbel & Rachel Olmstead. Jonas died in 1851, Cynthia died after 1870. Is there a Library near you that might have a History of Broome County, NY, Author H. P. Smith published in 1885? the Olmstead's are supposed to be on pages 811-812. I am hoping there might be info in this history about the Standishes. I saw a Charles Standish in the index for the 1840 State census for Champaign County, Ill. In the federal census they have a Standish indexed as Harvey, but if you blow it up and check the handwriting, it is written as Aiancy, not Harvey. Do you have any way of checking the actual 1840 State Census? Would appreciate your comments. La Von, E-Mail dmillard@direcway.com

    1. [STANDISH] False Standish Genealogy online
    2. Joan Norstedt
    3. Not just Standish genealogy. Unfortunatly, there seems to be no one at the familysearch.org site that even cares that the majority of the *genealogy* they have in their files is incorrect and/or inaccurate. I use this site, when I use it, just to get ideas, not facts. Remember, these files are submitted by members of the church, most of whom (from what I've seen) know nothing about genealogy research.
