They have promised the old posts will continue to be available, but there are never any guarantees with free services. There have been very few posts here over the last 10 or 15 years. If people are interested in reviving a list, and if we have a volunteer to co-administer, I will be glad to start a new list or group. Many lists are creating groups on groups.io and that is what I would suggest. Otherwise, I appreciate all of the Stalnaker researchers who I met through this list and who have helped in my research over the last 20 years. (I can't believe it has been that long!) I have been working on revising and expanding my paper s on the German and immigrant Stalnakers, and will post to my website sometime this spring or summer. -- Lisa ==== Lisa deGruyter Clarksburg, West Virginia http://ldeg.wordpress.com _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ Email preferences: http://bit.ly/rootswebpref Unsubscribe https://lists.rootsweb.com/postorius/lists/stalnaker@rootsweb.com Privacy Statement: https://ancstry.me/2JWBOdY Terms and Conditions: https://ancstry.me/2HDBym9 Rootsweb Blog: http://rootsweb.blog RootsWeb is funded and supported by Ancestry.com and our loyal RootsWeb community

    3. I've done a bit of quick research, since the Stalnaker Family Association has a lot of information on Stalnaker genealogy. Also, I've checked with findagrave.com and other family trees on Ancestry.com. Looks like James Guy Stalnaker is descended from the line of Adam Stalnaker, Sr., son of Jacob Stalnaker, who was among the first settlers of Randolph Co., (West) Virginia. The Zoll name was the key - since I recall seeing the Zoll family name on a gravestone at the Beverly (Randolph Co., WV) cemetery. Caroline Erskine Zoll was married to Randolph Stalnaker, son of Adam Stalnaker, Jr. All of them are buried in Beverly, WV. Here's my quick take on the family line: James Guy, son of Guy Zoll, son of Guy Cloud, son of John William, who was born in WV but moved at some date to Austin (Travis Co.), TX, son of Randolph, Sr., (1808-1885), born and died in Randolph Co, WV, (buried at Beverly, WV), son of Adam Stalnaker, Jr. (1780-1815), son of Adam Stalnaker, (1750 - 1780/82), was killed by Indians, son of Jacob Stalnaker, Sr.(1710 - 1792) died and buried at Beverly, WV I hope this helps! I would love to know who Elizabeth was, and have been looking for a long time. The christening records prove she was Maria Elisabeth, but they do not have her maiden name. None of the Truby records show anyone who could be her, no Trubys show up as sponsors or in other associated records, nor do Stalnakers show up in Truby records until they get to Randolph Co. However, Catherine daughter of Christopher Truby "of Birkensee" (an old spelling of Perkasie PA) married John Pancake (Pankuchen) and came to the South Branch of the Potomac. It is likely John Truby is her brother, and Elizabeth could have been a sister. There is another Christopher Truby, John's father Jost Pankuchen was his executor - but his children are all named in estate records, and there is not an Elizabeth, and the John, Christopher, and Catherine are too young to be the West Virginia ones, and are otherwise accounted for. > Jacob Stalnaker Jr.'s father is unknown, and his wife was not Eleanor > Truby, Not unknown, but unproven. I think it is more likely than not that Jacob Jr. was the son of Jacob Sr. From all the dates we can document, taken together, I think it is likely that Capt. Sam was Jacob Sr.'s older brother. That leaves open the possibility that Jacob Jr. is Sam's son and Jacob Sr.'s nephew. Junior was used then to mean just the younger of two men of the same name in an area, not necessarily father and son. > and who is the Eleanor Truby buried in the Stalnaker Family Cemetery? Unless there is an original grave marker that says Eleanor Truby Stalnaker in the Stalnaker cemetery, the Eleanor buried there is Jacob Jr.'s wife but not proven a Truby. It is possible that she, not Elizabeth wife of Jacob Sr., was a daughter of John (not Christopher) Truby - the dates would match. There is a christening record for Christopher Truby, son of John and Esther, 1 Feb 1756, and he had land in Randolph Co. Rebecca Truby married John Cutright, and Ann Truby married James Westfall, in Randolph (then Harrison Co.), both records naming John Truby as father. I know of no records showing that Eleanor was, but there is no proof she wasn't, and there is room in the family for her - and more children, really. I misspoke earlier about Eleanor possibly being a Westfall - it was John Truby's wife Esther/Hester who was possibly a Westfall, also not proven. We just haven't found enough records to know much for sure. I have found a few new ones over the years, and suspect there may be some more in the old Philadelphia Co. records, which are only available in Philadelphia - not even the indexes are available. I have been considering a trip. The records in eastern Pennsylvania are thin, but they get even thinner on the frontier in Virginia. 3. Jacob Jr.s wife's name was documented to be Eleanor. Although the Stalnaker Chronology says she was Christopher Truby's daughter, she was not. The Christopher Truby in Randolph Co. was about the same age as she was. There are those who list her as a Westfall, but there is no proof of that, either. Jacob Sr.'s wife, Maria Elisabeth, is listed in the Stalnaker Chronology as the daughter of John Truby, but she is not. John Truby was at least as old as she was. There is a modern monument that lists her as Truby, but there is no proof. Jacob Sr. is generally thought to be Jacob Jr.'s father, but there is no proof. If you read the paper I posted, you will probably be even more confused, but you will have some facts to be confused about. I have been researching this for over 15 years. I have learned a lot, and much of it is that what we thought was true isn't. -- Lisa ==== Lisa deGruyter Clarksburg, West Virginia http://ldeg.wordpress.com

    1. [STALNAKER] Linking Darl C Washburn to the Stalnaker family
    2. Dina via
    3. I am writing because I have hit a brick wall regarding my grandfather, and I'm hoping someone may have information. Here are the details: My grandfather, Darl C Washburn, was born on January 26, 1896 in Star City, Indiana. He was the son of Harry Stalnaker and Altha Hinton; they married in Pulaski County, Indiana on 28 May 1894. Harry Stalnaker was the son of Lawrence Stalnaker and his second wife, Nancy Dickerson Crow. Lawrence's first wife, Sarah Mildred Hamilton, died on 27 November 1861 in Logansport, IN. Lawrence Stalnaker remarried, to the widow Nancy on 20 January 1863. Lawrence (born 11 August 1820) was the son of George Washington Stalnaker, who moved to Indiana in the 1840s. Lawrence and Nancy had three children: Emma Stalnaker (born 20 June 1864 - died 15 October 1874); James Stalnaker (born 2 March 1868 - died 23 September 1870); and Harry (born 10 January 1872 - died 30 December 1897). Only Harry survived childhood. The two deceased children are buried in the Star City Cemetery. Harry was 25 when he died of typhoid in Mooresburg, Pulaski County, IN. No will has been found for Harry Stalnaker. Lawrence Stalnaker died on 6 December 1898, reportedly in Star City, IN. He was survived by his wife, Nancy; she died on 22 June 1908, also reportedly in Star City. I have been unable to find both the will of Lawrence Stalnaker and his death certificate. I expect that Darl, his grandson, would have been acknowledged in the will, as well as receiving Harry's share of the estate following Lawrence's death. In the 1900 Federal Census for Pulaski County, Altha Stalnaker was listed as the head of a household that included her son, Darl, age 4, and her youngest brother, Clarence Hinton, age 14. By this time, both of her parents were also deceased. Shortly after the census was taken, on 18 September 1900, Altha remarried to Dr. George W. Washburn of Star City, IN. Dr. Washburn was a country doctor, and Darl drove the horse-drawn cart when he went on rounds. According to family lore, Dr. Washburn adopted Darl after the marriage. However, I have been unable to find an official adoption record, and apparently such records are forever secret in Indiana. It is clear that Dr. Washburn considered himself Darl's father. When Darl's first wife was dying from complications following the birth of my father, Dr. Washburn traveled from Indiana to Colorado and took over her medical care. I would be very grateful for any information that would enable me to strengthen the link between Darl C Washburn (born Stalnaker), to Lawrence Stalnaker and/or his second wife, Nancy Crow. Thank you in advance for any advice or information the Stalnaker list serve can provide! Dina Washburn Kruger Dina@krugerstrategies.com

    3. Daughter Jo Anna seems to have married J. L. Bowdry in Tippah MS 1873, in 1880 a John and Joannah Bowdry are living in Lincoln Co. Arkansas with sister-in-law Dora "Straker" 16 b. Mississippi in the household. My guess is Kitty died soon after 1870. Perhaps Melinda can confirm from her database. I have a note in my database that Adam W. was probably son of the Benjamin listed in the 1830 Census in Georgia, who married the widow Eliza Craddock on Christmas 1845, since Benjamin was the only Stalnaker in Georgia early enough to be Adam's father - and also for Richard b.c. 1821 in GA, married Sarah Blackburn, Troup. I noticed the other day while checking on something else that the marriage bond for Adam W. Stalnaker and Kitty Gregory was by Adam W. and Benjamin Stalnaker. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1961-25844-10876-25 and that the marriage bond for Benjamin's marriage to Eliza Craddock was by Benjamin Stalnaker and Stokes Massingale (signed S. D. Massingale) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-25839-32780-6 Drusilla Stalnaker married S.D. Massingale in 1841 All the above in Tallapoosa Co. This suggests to me that Adam W. and Drusilla are both children of Benjamin b.c.1784 in SC, in Henry Co. GA by 1830, in Chambers Co. AL by 1840, Tallapoosa Co. AL 1860. While poking around further, I found a death record for Benjamin Ross Stonaker which indicates Eliza Craddock's maiden name was Dillard Name: Benjiman Ross Stonaker Titles and Terms: Name Prefix: Event Date: 30 Nov 1934 Event Place: Tallassee, Elmore, Alabama Gender: Male Race (Original): White Race: White Age (Original): 87y Birth Year (Estimated): 1847 Birth Date (Original): Birthplace: Tallapoosa Co., Ala. 3. I will have to look at my database later. Adam's brother, Richard is my ggg grandfather. There are a few of us descendants who are stuck at Richard.. no one has been able to find any definite information on their parents. I would love to get with you and exchange any information. I have a story that was sent to me by a descendant of Adam and kitty's son Theodore Ripley. It is about kitty and her life. I will get it scanned and sent to you.
