Hiya Sandra, I also do a 'one name' study of my maiden name of Hudgill I do have a website www.hudgill.com but try to make it a taster or teaser for people with the Hudgell or Hudgill name to contact me, which they do, not only in the UK but Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, the name has spread worldwide from our earliest ancestor of George Hudswell. But I find people are eager to swop and exchange information, also I have 100's of birth marriage and death certificates which people have sent me over the years. The best thing is they also send me old photos as well as new ones which helps me too because I want to know more about the Hudgells and put some meat on the bones, I am not just studying the name its the people as well. Its surprising how often I get a 'brick wall' broken down just my an odd bit of information someone gives me, and when there is a birth of a new little twig then they let me know that, it keeps my own database up to date. I have tried to list the names and details of the Hudgell family but tried to make it so someone can't just look and copy it all, each name has to be followed back and back, so not just as easy as copy and paste into there family history software. There are fore and against putting it on the internet and I definitely wouldn't spare all I have with someone who then goes and posts in on one of the one line trees, this study has taken me 20 years or more so I do understand your caution. Other than that I also have a very small group on face book - well actually its only me and my sister ;o)) but anyone with the name can join there and exchange info. I am also a member of the Guild of One Name Studies but its not necessary and you could carry on on your own. But I would also be interested in what others think. Pam born and bought up in Stoke on Trent but most of my research is in Epping Essex where by dad was born www.hudgill.com -----Original Message----- From: sandra.bev@talktalk.net Sent: Tuesday, October 30, 2012 11:44 AM To: staffordshire-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [STAFFORDSHIRE] One name study - advice Hi to all, I wonder if anyone has any advice please? I am doing a study of the Bevington / Beavington name and have quite a list! How do I let people know it's there? I don't want to publish it on the net - not because it's "mine" but because I would like feedback. You never know who may be out there with the missing link! Also I would like to comment on the parts that people may be interested in and also make the point that I have nearly 1300 names that are connected by marriage. Any thoughts anyone.....? or even anyone want to contribute! Hi Sandra and Pamela I do the Fernyhough and variants one name study and have been a member of the Guild of One Name Studies for a long time. Ronald Bebbington has registered Bevington as one of his variants. It would be interesting for you to discuss with him why he thinks Bevington is a variant. Go to the Guild site at: www.one-name.org and type Bevington into the "is your surname registered" box. That will give you his email address. I note that he does not have a Profile page, which is where you explain your study, its derivation, distribution, origins or anything else that interests you. I have had many contacts through mine.
