    3. Hello John, I don't think that the marriage Peter found for Charles Cross CLARKE & Theodosia PURFECT is your Charles and Theodosia as according to IGI Family Search they seem to have had several children in Ramsden-Crays, Essex during the same period that your Charles and Theodosia were having children in Astbury. Further to what Jan found for you, i.e. the marriage of Theodosia to William CLAYTON in 1824, FMP have the actual BT burial record image of a Charles CLARK at Astbury on 1 January 1822, Mail Coach Guard, abode Liverpool, aged 37 which would fit in very well with the date of Theodosia's remarriage. They also have the BT burial entry at Astbury on 9 October 1842 of Theodocia wife of Wm CLAYTON & relict of Charles CLARK, aged 53. 1841 census of Astbury (HO107/119/11, folio 13, pages 19/20) shows: William CLAYTON 40 Silk Weaver Born in county yes Teodocia do 60 Silk Winder no Mary COTTRELL 75 Silk Winder no which tends to support the baptism that Peter found for you at Rushton Spencer, which by the way is not too far from Astbury. Not that this helps to find the marriage of Charles & Theodosia I'm afraid but perhaps Rushton Spencer would be a good place to start. Janet I am trying to find the marriage of a Charles Clarke to a Theodosia Cotterel in about 1815. Theodosia was born in Staffordshire in 1789, Charles was fro Congleton in Cheshire. They had children in Congleton.

    3. Janet, The Booth duo in harmony again. Just so people don't get confused we are on opposite sides of the globe. We share the same surname but don't have a link. Happy to have a possibility proven or disproven by further research. That's why they are called theories. Given that we now know Charles Clark lived in Liverpool it may bring into contention the two Cotterell / Clarke marriages in Cheshire and Lancashire around that time. Were they relatives of Theodosia or did she perhaps marry using a second given name. Given that 1841 census shows both Mary and Theodosia it does give support to Ruston Spencer birth and the illegitimate theory. Sorry, I don't have time to check out all the possibilities. But we've given John plenty to work with. If she is alive in 1851, you should get her exact birthplace. Peter
