Get the death cert! That should have the cause of death. Unless time is really of the essence, get it from the GRO - it is cheaper there. You may have to look it up first on other sites though to get the page and district numbers. If time really matters, you can get it through ancestry and they email you (if you ask, and pay extra I presume) the cert once they get it so it does save the postage time - that is, you get it in the mail anyway but have the info first. If a hospital was involved, MAYBE there will be some more options but privacy - and then, there is the distinct possibility that the actual medical records have been destroyed.
