    3. Birth Certificates do show names of mothers and their maiden names. So that all fits. Purchasing the above certificate would tell, but it won't show mother.

    3. Sue, Apologies. Of course they do. I'm getting mixed up with Parish Records and also marriage certificates where you can only be certain of getting the father. Peter

    3. Depends a bit on when (and where?) I think for England. Other places I know are different - in Victoria Australia you get length of parents marriage, other siblings names and ages and so on. I applied for an English birth cert for about 1870s and did not expect to get 'mum's maiden name - but did. You may not be as lucky, as I think it was at least a decade later before it became compulsory. 3. I have many early Birth Certificates - they all give the mother's maiden name. ........All Birth Certificates for England should contain the following information: 1) The date and place of birth. 2) The name of the child. 3) The name and occupation of the father. 4) The name and maiden (or previous married name) of the mother. 5) The signature (or mark) and name and address of the informant (usually a parent). ..........Ancestral Trails by Mark D.
