I think rules differ between record offices - tripods allowed in some places, not in others for lack of room. Main thing is any device must not actually touch the documents. I have used a digital camera, hand held, for some time - years - and find almost always it is fine. Take two or three pictures of each bit to cover yourself -= if one has moved, then the other is OK. Fro REALLY important things, make notes - and or get eg a dvd made of the matter. Here, it can be done if you pay - and it then goes on line sooner than if you just waited for it to appear. Well, that was so a couple of years back for the particular records I wanted for my gg grandfather anyway.
