Helen, It would be nice to know her age. That is a vital clue. Also you don't give her birthplace from 1851. It's always good to check as many censuses as possible for consistency of age and birthplace. I've often seen people looking in the wrong timeframe because the relied on data from just one census. Hello Many thanks for the helpful replies. Hannah gives her year of birth as about 1788 in the 1861 Census and about 1787 in the 1851 Census. She gives simply Waterfall, Staffordshire as her birthplace in 1851 and Sparrow Lee Staffordshire in 1861. Unfortunately she had died before the 1871 Census. I always thought she would have been a child of a Sparrow Lee servant but she married the tenant of Daisy Bank Farm and their daughter Eliza later went on to marry Samuel Hudson, son of the owner of Sparrow Lee which has confused me. How easy was it for a servant to bridge the social divide in the early 1800's?
