Michael - your not quite right on Birth and death certificates as they can only be obtained from the GRO or the local registrars. What you see in Parish records are Christening/baptismal and Burial records which are not Birth or death certificates. A baptism record will give the parents names and SURNAME but not necessarily the mothers maiden name. It gives the date of the christening which can be any time after birth. It may give a street name but most early ones just give the town/village. a fathers occupation is normally given. whereas a birth cert will give the date of birth, where the birth took place and the mothers maiden name for a married woman. A Burial record in the parish register gives a date of the Burial, but not always a date of death. It does not give the cause of death. It may give the location of the grave within the cemetery if you are extremely lucky. The death certificate gives the date of death and the cause of the death plus the age of the deceased. It gives no detail of when or where the burial took place. others will expand on this detail I am sure Steve gives the On 27/03/12 20:12, Michael Wright wrote: > This is a general question, and may be a bit much to handle by one person. Steve, Do you know if a death certificate would include a maiden name? The death was in 1837, in Onecote.
