    3. Hi Mike, There are several trees for Sampson on Ancestry. However some have him born in Lancashire which does not appear to be correct so the information needs checking thoroughly. They all seem to agree on a birth date of 14th April. Have you thought of going to a local library to see if you can access Ancestry from there? In the notes below I have not include the CHATTERLEY surname. Anyway one tree has him the son of Philip,1859 and Elizabeth Downing,1860 with siblings Susannah,1884; Agnes,1890; Ida Janet,1892; Philip, 1893 who married Gertrude L Trickey,1900-1927 and had 2 children, one still living and Jean Shirley 1927-2008. Philip(the father of Sampson) was the child of William,1827 and Susannah Silvester,1825. William was the son of Joseph,1793-1864 and Mary ???,1800-1827. William's siblings were Anne, 1820; Joseph, 1823; and Mary,1825-1825. Susannah Silvester's father was Philip, 1805. Another tree has more family members but is rather tangled. Another tree has another marriage for Philip, Sampson's father. It would appear to be a previous marriage but the births overlap. The spouse was Mary Ann Ballard, 1864 with children William Harry,1882-1947; Margaret, 1886; Caleb, 1888; Ethel, 1892; Violet, 1895; Olive, 1899 and Ellen,1900. Philip married Elizabeth Downing in Oct-Dec 1882. And another tree has William Harry's father as John William so the probability is the tree owner in the paragraph above has his facts wrong. Another tree give Elizabeth DOWNING's parentage. (DOWNING omitted below.) She is the child of George,1837-1921 and Elizabeth BOULTON,1837-1912. Elizabeth is the child of John BOULTON and Ann Emma ???. George is the child of Sampson and Catherine. Sampson is the child of Anne. Catherine is the child of William Sutton and Susannah. I stress again, this info is only as good as the tree writer's skills and my copying skills. Hope this helps. I am actually in the UK at present and have no possible chance of accessing Ancestry. Recently on a visit to a relative, a CHATTERLEY, I was given some information that led to a Sampson CHATTERLEY who I have assumed was the one registered in Stone in 1902. I would love any information about his ancestry, even more so, if it led to any of the CHATTERLEY families that resided in the area round the Warwickshire/Worcestershire border where my wife's CHATTERLEY ancestors came from. However at this poing anything to help with the 'backward'' progression would be welcomed. 2. Goodness all that different information is definately over-kill, think it maybe best to order some certificates. I don't think it is helpful quoting every tree on Ancestry. 3. I would normally only have given information on the immediate family and pointed Mike in the direction of the Ancestry trees. However, Mike is over here from New Zealand, so I am presuming for a relatively short period of time. I doubt if he has time to order and receive certificates and then do the research he wishes to as a result of what he finds out. So I was giving him as much information as possible in the hope that it enables him to use his time over here more profitably. I find it hurtful to be criticised for trying to help. -----Original Message----- From: linlamberg@btinternet.com Sent: Monday, October 01, 2012 3:39 AM To: staffordshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [STAFFORDSHIRE] CHATTERLEY Goodness all that different information is definately over-kill, think it maybe best to order some certificates. 3. Hi Christine and friends If it had ben me that had posted the request that Mike posted, in the circumstances, I would have been most pleased to have received the information you provided. Far from being criticised you should be congratulated for finding the time and making the effort to help Mike, in the circumstances. Please do not allow one critic to deter you - at least you made an effort! Well done. Kindest regards Jack

    3. I agree with you 100% Christine, can only assume that Lin did not read the original request carefully enough.
