Our History Centre has microFs, but their printer is broken, and obsolete, so if you want a print-out, they re-scan the original and print from that - at your (vast) expense. "No, we have no plans - no money - to transcribe anything." I offered to give a "museum" a stack of my family history stuff, scanned onto DVD. "Thanks for the offer - but we can only accept microFs" ! Well, funny old thing, I don't *have* any facility to produce such a thing. So I put it onto a WebSite instead... *I* reckon that all these unemployed people on the dole (for which I pay) should earn their dole by doing transcriptions....

    2. Having unemployed people transcribing is not a new idea. Doncaster did this many years ago under the auspices of the manpower commission and the quality varies from parish to parish. One I transcribed showed an amazing 60 percent error rate yet another had only 2 percent. To have people do this who really don't care is a waste of time and effort. One only as to look at some of the igi transcriptions to see this. Personally I would say join your local fhs and help them by giving a couple of hours a week to transcribe. 3. I might get a similar response, but key staff are on holiday. In any case, Listers today have been so helpful. -----Original Message----- From: staffordshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:staffordshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Ooooppss Sent: 11 April 2012 22:29 To: staffordshire@rootsweb.com Subject: [STAFFORDSHIRE] Microfiche/film to digital Kevin Walker wrote, Wed, 11 Apr 2012 17:08:14 +1200 Subject: [STAFFORDSHIRE] Abraham MOSS - Alstonfield - c1760 baptism > I have contacted Staff/Birm FHS and note that microfiche exist for > this parish.
