I always watch the Anzac Day march - TV only - and spend much of the three hours or so of the TV coverage, weeping. Rain and horrible weather this year - they were prepared for far smaller crowds they said - but, the more it rained, the ore the people came. Not just Australian troups march either - allies too, and some of the "enemy" are now welcomed and march at the end of the Australian contingent. Radio coverage at least started very early, about 5am I think, with the dawn servicea t the shrine. Melbourne, this all is - but it happens all over Australia and you get your state march televised. Country towns do the same but on a much smaller scale of course.. A minute's silence at the football this afternoon - at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), traditionally - and to hear such a crowd totally silent is awe inspiring they say. It is the only time it happens. Her husband died on 16 April this year, age 92, and his funeral is today, Anzac Day. RIP.
