Theresa, You really need to put relevant details in your posts and use appropriate subject lines. People won't help if they have to look for information you already know. In 1871 census at Brockhampton in Herefordshire I found James Goss b1834 Uttoxeter and wife Sarah b1832 Uttoxeter with sons Thomas b1869 and William b1870 both with birthplace of Norbury in what looks like Derby. James is a gamekeeper In 1881 census they are at Leigh in Staffordshire, but James is born 1839 at Uttoxeter and Sarah 1846 in Mottram, Cheshire. They have an additional son James b1878 at Ilam, Staffs. As you say, I can't find a likely match for James Goss on Ancestry using exact spelling in 1841, 1851 or 1861. Have you found his marriage? Do you have a certificate that should show father's name? I'd also suggest trying Find My Past. Try spelling variants as well. They also have the possibility to search by occupation so Goss (and variants) with occupation gamekeeper might bring up him and his father. There's some suggestions. You'll have to do the work. Peter
