    3. Bill, All kinds of mis-matched info here. I believe the two entries from 1841 are the same person. It's possible that he lived close to the mine or railway station and was counted there, as well as being counted at home. The ages and estimated dates of birth along with the birth places make this kind of odd. It really looks like the 1841, 1861, and 1871 people are the same (could be mis-transcribed to give the inaccurate birth year). It's possible that his family (or at least his early childhood) lived in Newcastle; but later he learned that he was born in Wednesbury. I cannot find Cheltenham, Staffordshire on google maps. I included the entry from the 1881 census because he shows up as being from West Bromwich where you said he raised his family.Another thought I had was that he may not have been present during the census record taking and his co-workers could have been the ones telling people where he was likely born, thus all the strange answers.I don't have any paid subscriptions so I can't do much more research than that. Hope you find more info. ---------------- 1841 ---------------- William Grice 35 Engineer Est. birth year 1806 Birth Place Staffordshire William Grice 35 Engineer Est. birth year 1806 Birth Place Staffordshire ---------------- 1851 ---------------- William Grice 42 Miller Of Iron Est. birth year 1809 Birth Place Cheltenham Staffordshire ---------------- 1861 ---------------- William Grice 59 Engine Driver Est. birth year 1802 Birth Place Newcastle Staffordshire ---------------- 1871 ---------------- William Grace 60 Engine Driver At Coal Miner Est. birth year 1811 Birth Place Wednesbury Staffordshire ---------------- 1881 ---------------- William Grice 67 Iron Worker Est. birth year 1814 Birth Place West Bromwich Staffordshire ---------------- 1891 ---------------- None Michael Wright 801-773-7680 (H) 801-390-0960 (C) rahmuss@hotmail.com > > This is my first request to the list and wondered if some kind soul could help me with a look up to solve a very long standing problem. > > > > For many years I have been trying to find the birth place and consequently the parents of my g.g.grandfather William Grice born 1803 (according to marriage cert, census, etc). 3. Not sure why those entries all ended up on one line. Another thought I had was that if his co-workers gave his information (age and place of birth), then that would also explain the discrepancy in ages.
