I hope that marriage record was amended at the local registry office and the GRO not just the church, too! I agree witht he father in law - the error was no laughing matter. We will not mention the slight forgery matter The details for my ex husband's new marriage- his wife - are wrong too. They were partly amended I believe, but do not know - and certainly not fully. Here the marriage cert should give the details of her previous, two marriages and husbands even though both were overseas AND of her children and parents - (Victorian Australia certs give MUCH more info than the English certs - which are almost not worth the paper they are written on in my opinion!) and, when asked her father's name, she said the equivalent of Fred - no surname - so the celebrant assumed it was the same as hers and there were no previous marriages I think. Sure she came from overseas, had no experience here and English was a second language though you would never know it from talking to her. I think her first marriage got included as an amendment (both her previous husbands had died) but not the first. Not my concern though I think it should be amended totally. Trouble is, they have signed it as a sworn statement and amending it is not so easy - impossible for an outsider, ie not a party involved or the celebrant! And being totally uninterested and even slightly antagonistic to family history, my ex will not do anything about it. Just as well I was there at his wedding, as for details of our children, ex had to ask me for their full names (which I think he knew) and their ages. He could never remember them OR mine for that matter, ages or birthdays, so it came as no surprise! Hmmm... My wife and I were married in 1971, and went out to South Africa a few days later, for two years. My new father-in-law was the Rector of the church in which we were wed by someone else. It was father-in-law who filled in the forms. It was only a year or more later that my wife actually looked closely at the marriage certificate, and found that he had put my name down as Robert, not Robin. We laughed about it, and told him. He took it very seriously, as "no laughing matter", and issued us with a new certificate - on which he had forged the signatures of all the witnesses ! We have both documents for posterity ;-) __________ Information from ESET NOD32 Antivirus, version of virus signature database 8155 (20130323) __________ The message was checked by ESET NOD32 Antivirus. http://www.eset.com
