Hello Sue, I have been in touch with you before when you helped me with another by the name of Ann Winter, she turned out to be Ann Southall, the certificates were not correct as does happen when you have illegitimate births. Mary Winter & Joseph Aldridge did have their earlier children baptised at Stonnall. I have to get hold of the parish films to look further at the Winter family, which I will do. What did the family do? Were they farmers at some time?. I have a very good photo of Edmund Aldridge son of Joseph Aldridge & Mary Winter. Do you have any photos of the Winter family? One of my maternal 4 x gt. grandmothers was a Joyce WINTERS (b c 1760. Died 1811) She had a sister Mary born 1762. My WINTER(S) family seem to originate from Stapenhill, DBY before moving to Stonnall between 1766 and 1770. I lose track of Mary after the baptism of her illgt child at Shenstone in 1781. This baptism records that the child was born in Stonnall. As Whittington and Stonnall are not too far distant from each other I wondered if there was any connection? Is there any one also researching this couple or could tell me anything of the Aldridge family. One of their younger sons Edmond married my ancestor Ann Southall. This marriage took place at Whittington a few years after their son Joseph was born 1826. Joseph kept his mother's name. Edmond had more children after his wife died to a Diane Harris. Edmond also did 6 months hard labour after he & Diane her daughter & her son Matthew Preston were caught in the house of Richard Southall. Richard was the eldest son of his first wife Ann Southall. Matthew Preston was a very hardened criminal & did many years in jail. There must have been an interesting tale behind why the 4 of them were in this house of Richard Southall, the court records do not reveal anything to me unfortunately. The women were spared any charges laid against them, again interesting & why!! I actually have a photo of Edmond as a young man. If anyone can shed some light on the Aldridge family I would be most grateful. Ok Robyn - from what you say there does seem to be a link between us. If I am correct my Joyce WINTER(S) and your Mary WINTER are the 3rd & 4th children of Joseph WINTERS and Joice ? (possibly HANSON). As I said yesterday Joseph 'appears' to have originated in Stapenhill (I have a possible baptism for him of 6 June 1730 at Stapenhill, son of Joseph and Marie WINTERS) but moved to Stonnall before 1770 when the remainder of his and Joice's children were born. ie Thomas 1770-1845 Stonnall, William 1771-1836 Stonnall, Charles 1777, and Sarah 1777. (I am assuming Charles baptism was probably a late one). The other children I have are: James b?, Samuel b?-buried 1807 Stonnall, (then Joyce c1760 and Mary 11 December 1762 Stapenhill), Ann 1764-1832 Stonnall, and there is possibly another daughter called Jane born c1766. Of these children William born 1771 seems to have been the most successful, being a farmer. I have no record of what occupation Joseph was employed in, but as Stonnall is still a farming community he almost certainly was employed upon the land. Joseph died in 1797 and is buried at St John, Shenstone and Joice died in 1813 and is buried at St Peter, Stonnall. I will have a scout through the records I have here and see if I can find any further information for you regarding the ALDRIDGE/WINTER connection. PS: my Joyce WINTERS (1760-1811) married my maternal 4xgt.grandfather William GLOVER 1782 at St Peter, Wolverhampton, but they actually lived in the Pelsall/Walsall Wood area settling at Shaver's End, Shelfield.
