He was born in Shropshire c1840 - He is recorded on 1871 census living with his brother William and family at 21 Swan Street, Stoke on Trent and his brother John and his family are recorded as living Alcocks Court, Bagnall Square, Hanley, George died 1875 at Cottage Square, Tinkersclough, Shelton Stoke on Trent AGED 35yrs and the informant was his sister in law Ellen (john's widow as John died in 1873.) His father was Thomas - This is recorded on William and John's Marriage Certificates. He had 2 children George BASSETT HUMPHREYS 1872 and Elizabeth BASSETT HUMPHREYS 1874, both of whom were born in Tinkersclough, I have their birth certificates and baptismal records. There doesn't seem to be a record of his and Leah's marriage as when she did marry a few years later she is recorded as a Spinster. I wonder whether he was already married but had left his wife. When his children married they decided to use their mothers name of Bassett. I cannot find any record on the 1881 census of the family, which by then included Leah her married name was Banner and had two more children named William and Samuel BANNER. I have tried lateral thinking to knock the various brickwalls down, this is how I found George and his brothers as I had very little to go on. John by the way was recorded on 1871 as born in Whitchurch, but William and George are just given as Shropshire. William is on the 1881 census but it is not clear which area of Shropshire is his place of birth. I don't think that I have left out any information that I have, so I would be most grateful for any suggestions as to where I can go. I have also posted this to Shropshire, so hope that it is OK to do this.
