    1. Re: [STAFFORDSHIRE] Sources
    2. Michael Wright
    3. This is a general question, and may be a bit much to handle by one person. Just wondering what sources we have to gather information from, and what the best way to find those sources is. I already know about some sources; but I'm not sure where I can get info on them. Birth Certificates: Parish records (though I guess I don't always know where they can be searched) Marriage Certificates: Parish records again Death Certificates: Parish records (who would have records of obituaries? And when did they start keeping them?) Census records: Many genealogical sites can search these (FamilySearch.org, Ancestry.com, FindMyPast.com) Wills: Not sure where to find these really. What other sources are out there? And where can I search or find them? Thanks. Michael Wright 801-773-7680 (H) 801-390-0960 (C) rahmuss@hotmail.com

    3. I just want to thank all those people who tried to help, it would seem that "my" William Eardley did not emigrate to the States, and I am left with my brick wall! William was born in Tunstall, Staffs,1863, son of Benjamin and Jane (Pope) Eardley, He married Margaret Jenkinson Edge in 1886 Their son, William Edge Eardley, was born, in Tunstall, in 1889. I can find William Edge in 1901, in Stone, as a visitor, and in 1911 as a boarder, but can find no further trace of William his father, none of the deaths recorded seem to fit the right age. The good news is that William, the son, married and had four sons, which is good for further genealogy Once again, thanks to all Fay

    2. Hi Fay This is some of what i have found on William Eardly b 1863 in England There are no exact matches that I can find but there are some that are close. by the way, did you notice that Wm Eardly that arrived on 3/19/1892 was an American and that the SS Santiago left from Cienfuegos, Nassau. Anyway, I found 3 possibilities based on age. In the 1900 census Santa Rosa California. 1. William Eardly b Feb 1863 in England. Arrived in the US in 1881. In 1900 he is living with his wife Jimelia and daughter Gladys age 7 This William is a real estate agent and owned his home. . I believe is full name is William J Eardly 2. In the 1900 census Chicago, Illinois. William Eardly. b. May 1867 in England. He arrived in the US in 1872. So he must have come with his parents In 1900 he is living with his wife Rilla and an Edgar Parker age 26. William is a general Merchant Clerk. 3. In the 1920 census, Multnomah, Oregon. William Eardly b. 1866 He arrived in the US in 1910. He is living with his wife Mary and son William (16). all of them are born in England This William Eardly also returned form England in July 1947 on the Queen Elizabeth. He was 83 years old. This states that he was naturalized American citizen in May 1922 in Portland, Oregon. I will keep looking and if any of these seem like yours let me know and I can maybe follow them through history. Do you think he brought his family over later or did he abandon them altogether. 3. Ancestry springs to mind! But you have to pay... look at all sites, as the exchange rate at one stage far favoured the British version - saved about $50Aust that way on an annual subscription as compared to the US and Australian ancestry versions. Same info if you choose the country/version you want. Watch out for specials, too.
