    3. Your best bet would be the William Salt Library which is next door to Stafford Archives. The Salt Library keeps hard copies and are very good researchers. > Hi Guys, anyone know if these papers are online? > > Trying to trace some details of a court case around the 15 January 1875 in Newcastle U Lyme of one Mark TILD[E]SLEY apparently jailed for demanding money by false pretenses and he got three months. 3. Hi there Jane, many thanks for your prompt reply, all I could find for the year I am after is the Tamworth Herald for 1875. The Staffs Advertiser on the link has papers missing from the end of December 1874! And start again in January 1878. Couldn't find a link to the Newcastle Journal at all. 3. With wills and dictating how the one left is to live their life, how on earth was the solicitor to check on the wife? No neighbours would know what was in the will, and possibly would not care how the lady lived after her husband died anyway. If a lady had a man caller, and the solicitor lived many miles away, he would never know. Anyway, maybe the man came around to chop her wood or clean the fireplace or do the garden.....I wondered reading the lines about the taking up a relationship with another man after the husband died, whether he had his suspicions about the man down the road and just wanted to warn him off, but then again if the man down the road had no idea what was in the will......I guess what the deceased man was trying to say was that if she married someone, that was ok, but anything else unacceptable...fair enough. 3. Dawn If you go to Old Maps website at http://www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html and search for meaford Choose say the 1879 map on the righthand side and if you traverse the map in a northwest direction slightly you will see the area near Stone called Darlaston. NB - If you use the IGI and find a record which says Parish of STONE be mindful that Stone parish was an awfully large one and came into the centre of Longton / Fenton towns. 3. Dear listerv members Posted with the permission of the list owner: We are pleased to announce that the indexes to the Stafford Gaol photograph albums, 1877-1916, are now available on the Staffordshire Name Indexes website, thanks to the work of the Staffordshire Record Office Volunteer Group. Stafford Gaol housed not only prisoners convicted at Staffordshire Quarter Sessions and other courts in Staffordshire, but also prisoners from across the midlands and northern England, on their way to penal servitude in well-known prisons such as Dartmoor, Portland and Parkhurst. The albums contain photographs of over 7,000 different prisoners. Unfortunately not all prisoners were photographed, and some of the albums have not survived, but they may provide the only available portrait of your criminal ancestor .... well, I guess most of have at least one! Why not check it out at www.staffsnameindexes.org.uk. You can order copies of the photographs if you find an entry in the index.
