    3. Thank you Peter. I did look for the next streets over on the census, but it was a different area altogether. Thank you for the idea of just a google search. Debbie -----Original Message----- From: staffordshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:staffordshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Peter R Booth Sent: June-13-12 8:41 PM To: staffordshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [STAFFORDSHIRE] DAMSGATE HILL in Burton upon Trent 1851 Debbie, I presume you tried Google Maps or Multimap and, being an old location, it didn't show up. But you can also try a normal Google search. Use the Advanced Search, put the name in quotation marks, or simply ask "Where is Damsgate Hill?" I found this in Google:- Lichfield Record Office Records of Talbot & Co, solicitors of Burton upon Trent Various properties in Burton upon Trent and elsewhere messuage and land called Damsgate Hill, Repton, 1864; If you then search for Repton, you'll find it in current day Derbyshire about halfway between Burton on Trent and Derby. Another option is to look at census pages before and after your ancestors and find nearby street names and cross streets. 3. Linda . I do not think so for all the children were baptized in the Weston under Lizard C o E church but you could be right. Thanks for putting that idea in to my head for that was the only church in the area and your idea is a possibility .Laurie. Laurie, your Samuel may have been a Baptist or a Methodist? Not many of those Non Conformist Registers have survived, and not all PR's are on the IGI. Your Samuel may be none of the possibles you have listed. HTH Linda. ******************************

For instance have you checked to see if any of Samuel's likely siblings, or indeed his parents, were also working for the Earl of Bradford on his various estates? "I HAVE SEVERAL SAMUELS BORN 1777 I AND CAN ARGUE THAT EACH ONE IS MY ANCESTOR , NAMELY CUMBRIA--YORKSHIRE--DERBYSHIRE--WARWICKSHIRE AND LONDON " . Also have you checked the Stafford Record Office Site? They are gradually making many of their indexes available online? But also check with them what records they hold for the Weston under Lizard estate itself. You might also need to check with the Shropshire Record Office! Also check with the Estate themselves. I know at Shugborough Hall - not too far distant - they have a fascinating catalogue of photographs of 19th century servants who worked there. Many of these great Estates still hold their records and will employ their own archivists. Always enclose return postage! "AN AUSTRALIAN COUSIN MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND THE STAFFORD RECORDS OFFICE STAFF BENT OVER BACKWARDS TO HELP HIM WHEN HE VISITED THEM. WILL CHECK THE SHROPSHIRE OFFICE . A DESCENDANT FROM A GRANDDAUGHTER HAD ACCESS TO THE EARL`S RECORDS AND FOUND A COPY OF A PHOTO OF Lucy , SAMUEL`S DAUGHTER WHEN SHE WAS A MAID BUT NO RECORD OF SAMUEL`S FATHER WORKING THERE " Also periodically check back over resources you may have checked a long time ago. Things can be missed that with your current knowledge may suddenly jump out at you. " I AM DOING THIS ALL THE TIME AND THINGS DO JUMP OUT BUT ONLY STRENGHENS THE COULD BE`S POSSIBILITIES BUT NOTHING DEFINATE' . One last piece of advice, look out for 'creative' spellings of the surname you are seeking. The most common-place name can be altered almost beyond present day recognition! 3. Peter .Thanks for replying . It would seem he was working for the Earl in about 1800 . and went to London with the Earl to his London home with Deborah as a maid for the earl`s wife .The Earl`s House was in Belgrave Square London . Godfrey Bradshaw was working for the Earl 1800 and was the witness at Samuel and Deborah`s wedding . You have Bradshaws attending the St. Werburg Derby and we have a Samuel baptized at St. Werburg 23/04/1777 . The 1841 census says no to born Staffordshire and he died 10/03/1850 . All the children were born in Weston under Lizard . I am leaning towards Derby or Warwickshire where a son found his bride there and also a grandson and there were Thompson carpenters there Peter I am grasping at straws for I am hoping a son/grandson descendant will come out of the woodwork . 2 granddaughters descendants only have what I know . Have you looked at London Parish Records on Ancestry? They may have more details on the marriage record. I'd like to see the birthplaces of the children. I'm confused on the timeline. What was he doing in London?. When was he working for the Earl of Bradford? I see his son Samuel married at Weston Under Lizard in 1835, suggesting the family moved back there. Have you found him in 1841 or 1851 census? If he hadn't died, 1851 should give birthplace. By 1861 he'd be over 80, so most likely deceased. Not sure if a death certificate would give parents or birthplace. Another possibility would be to look at submitted trees an Ancestry and Rootsweb. New trees may have been added since your last visit. I'd also recommend going back over sources of all your data. It's amazing what you find on review and why you missed it.
